Read moreStayed here 5 nights. Thought this would be my favourite hotel during a 30 day trip in Sri Lanka. Instead it was the worst. The photos are deceptive and don't represent how unhygienic this property is. Have never stayed at a dirtier hotel. What makes it worse is they know. One can clearly see how filthy it is. Not the staff's fault but the upper management of the hotel. Who is there to train staff and inspect their work.
The shelf above the AC and across from the ceiling fan had not been cleaned in years. Massive amounts of dust was everywhere as well as what looked like mice droppings. All which blows into the air when the AC and ceiling fan are on. Having it go into the lungs as I breathe. After witnessing my room and then the restaurant, I chose not to eat lunch or dinner here. Imagining what the kitchen must look like if they don't care what the guest can see for themselves elsewhere. Afraid of food poisoning. Wouldn't even use the spa thinking the massage tables must be unclean. A hotel's top priority should be to ensure the guests' health. Something every guest should be concerned about if they stay here. The rooms are the bare minimum. No tissue paper, body lotion, or even an extra roll of toilet paper in case you run out.
There was a gentleman at the front desk who was a bit dishonest and tried to provide a lower category room from what was booked. When asked about this was told, "maybe tomorrow because we're all sold out..." When I asked further, all of a sudden two room options miraculously became available. Also asked about getting change to pay a Tuk Tuk driver for a small bill. "No change possible." Ask further, and all of a sudden change appears. This type of dishonesty caused distrust and found it unprofessional. Caused distrust of the hotel. Checking in is the first impression a guest has of a hotel and it was a bit of a failure. It took about 45 minutes to settle the room issue. Once I got in, the lack of cleanliness was a horror and housekeeping came in to do a "deep" clean. Which took an hour. A quality hotel would have at the very least sent a note from the GM or a token of apology afterwards.. Nothing at all. Not even, "here's a peanut for all the trouble we caused you."
You walk into breakfast and there's no one to greet you and take you to your table. You then have to find a clean table where there are almost none. With no silverware. plates, or napkins. No espresso, americano, or cappuccino- the machine is in the bar! Why is it in the bar when those are mostly breakfast beverages? When you see how dirty everything is, you lose your appetite and wish breakfast wasn't included.
This hotel has a lot of potential but sadly no one cares. Certainly management does not. LOLC Holdings PLC should be ashamed to have this property in its portfolio. My deepest regret is choosing this hotel when I had so many others available. Feel like I was lied to and fooled by what they show on their Instagram and Website. What a huge mistake.
Positive things are the women working at the reception who were very kind when asked for help. As well as a very good restaurant nearby called Saffron Place Lake View Restaurant. Was my favourite of all. Ate there...
Read moreWe were in Sri Lanka for a wedding and decided to use the Hotel Sigiriya as our base for an extended stay of 7 nights. From the moment we arrived until the time that we left, all the staff welcomed us with a smile and greeting. On arrival, which was late evening, we were greeted by the Operations Manager Mapa and invited to 'light the candles', thank you, very thoughtful. We were a party of 3 and had a triple room, which had everything in that we needed and spacious, the room was clean and serviced daily with clean towels and replenished with bottled water. As we have visited Sri Lanka on a number of occasions and visited a lot of the 'tourist places', all we wanted to do on this visit was relax around the pool with a nice cool drink. The pool staff were very attentive ensuring that we had sunbeds together with towels and constantly clearing the pool of fallen leaves. Nearly every review I have read to date mentions the view from the hotel of Sigiriya Rock, and I have to agree that this is spectacular, they even have a small telescope so that you can view clearly the top and the many visitors there. Our booking was on a bed and breakfast basis, however on arrival we upgraded to full board, well worth the money! The food was exceptional, offering a wide range of dishes for both Europeans and Sri Lankan's alike. The mornings were great as we laid on the sunbeds, you could hear a myriad of birds in the nearby trees singing, then as afternoon arrived so did the monkeys, you could track these from one side of the hotel to the other, walking, playing and climbing. These too could be heard in the very early hours of the day and late afternoon on the roof of our room. During the afternoons we were often visited by the land monitors, strolling casually through the grounds of the hotel, checking everyone out before moving on. The hotel offers a Spa, unfortunately we chose not to use this but we spoke with other guest who had and they said it was very good. The grounds of the hotel were well maintained, you could always see staff out and about clearing the leaves. All in all a great stay, with really friendly staff, wonderful food and a fantastic view of Sigiriya Rock. Would we stay again, of course we would, definitely, value for money. Thank you to one and all for the hospitality that you showed to us....
