Sure! H🌄 An Unforgettable Sunrise Climb at Sigiriya!
Climbing Sigiriya has always been a magical experience, but this was my first time doing it at sunrise and it completely transformed the journey. I began my ascent at 5:20 AM and reached the summit by 5:50 AM, with a few short breaks along the way. The cool morning air, the serenity, and the absence of crowds made it incredibly refreshing and peaceful.
Watching the sunrise from the top of this ancient rock fortress is a moment I’ll never forget. The view was breathtaking golden rays illuminating the lush landscape below, creating a postcard perfect scene.
Why you should do the climb early morning: • No queues, no crowds just you and nature. • Avoid the heat: Midday climbs can be exhausting due to the intense sun and humidity. • Peaceful and safe: Fewer people means a smoother, more enjoyable climb with no unnecessary waiting on narrow staircases.
I completed the full experience in around 70–80 minutes, including enjoying the sunrise and capturing some great photos at the summit. If you’re more into history and want to explore the ruins of the ancient citadel, you can take your time but even a short early morning climb is truly rewarding.

After passing through the Lion’s Gate and climbing the steep iron stairs, you arrive at the summit where King Kashyapa once built his grand palace. Today, only ruins remain—stone foundations, pools, and terraces—but standing there surrounded by history is an unforgettable experience.
From the top, the panoramic view is absolutely breathtaking. You can see lush green forests, scattered villages, lakes, and endless stretches of Sri Lanka’s central plains. The cool breeze at the summit, combined with the sheer height, makes you feel like you’re standing on top of the world. Sunrise and sunset from this point are especially magical, with golden light spreading across the landscape.
Although the climb to the summit can be tiring, every step is worth it once you reach the highest point. It’s not just about the ruins—it’s about the sense of achievement, the connection with history, and the awe of seeing nature’s beauty spread out in every direction. For many visitors, the view from the top of Sigiriya Rock becomes the highlight of their trip...
Read moreSigiriya Rock is a must see when you visit sra Lanka. We got there very early, around 8am, to avoid the rush. Be prepared to walk and hike for at least an hour. As daunting as the steps look, the view at the top is very much worth it. Take your time going up the steps and be cautious if you have an issue with heights.
As we were leaving around 10am, it started getting busy. I can understand how the experience would be uncomfortable as there is not much space when climbing the steps and you can find yourself waiting...
