Tickets sale people are very unhelpful and wouldn't talk to you until car will arrive. And only then you can purchase your tickets. Interesting...Nobody is in rush here lol You have to change cable cars in the middle, its very smooth process since they arrive at the same time. One goes always down and one goes up. It's very steep and beautiful view of Lugano but then you loose Lugano view because it's behind the mountain. You can see very good Campione D'Italia and Paradiso and Bissone and Melide. Overall we didn't spent to much time there because we were on last train before they close. I think it was around 6 pm in first week of September. It's not cheap for 2 people even with TICINO ticket we paid over 60 CHF. It was very beautiful view but if you are not planning to take trails and be there more than few hours maybe you should reconsider. I never been in mountains for me it was first time so we went up there but all the shops and museum was closed. We had access only to small church that was from 1600's.
There was a long line. It is the weekend so probably normal. However, they only have one line whether you already have an online ticket or need to buy a ticket. There are signs at the front to scan a QR code and buy online, but it doesn't get you through any faster. I went to the website and bought a ticket online before I got there and still had to wait. I was able to use my Ticino pass online. However, I only seemed to get a 15% discount instead of 20%. Not sure what was wrong there. The funicular runs every 30 minutes and holds around 50 people. The times aren't like clockwork. You go halfway up on one funicular and then stop and switch to another one on the other side. I think you can walk down, at least part of the way. There is a restaurant, a viewpoint, and a museum at the top. A nice place to walk around. There are restrooms at the top as well.
You can either hike the approximately 2.5 miles up to the top of the mountain or take the funicular ride up and back. We were originally planning on doing the hike, but it was over 90 degrees F. and humid, so we took the funicular. The ride itself provides some great views, but nothing like what you'll see from the top. There's a little hiking trail along the top that opens up to various viewing spots. There is also a small church that you can go up the outside stairs to get more views of the city and river below. The day we went was hazy (due to the humidity) but the views were still spectacular! After touring the mountain we walked around the small town a bit. It's a beautiful town right on the harbor. It made for a good day trip!
Must do/see in Lugano. Amazing panoramic views on Lugano and surroundings. You get to the top with a funicular that departs in Lugano Paradiso. It is centrally located and easily accessible by public transport. There is a car park at the departure of the funicular but it is small and it looked full when we were there. An absolute must do. Catch the funicular or drive up. The views over one of the most stunning lakes is to be seen to be believed. From the funiculore, it is about a 10 minute walk to the peak. Climb up to the top of the building at the top and experience the best views you can imagine. You can hike to other panoramic views but why bother - this is the best.
One of the best views in Lugano. Funicular leaves every 30 minutes. Journey time approx. 12 minutes. Price of tickets: single -23 for., return - 30 fr. On the top you can find restaurant with a veranda and panoramic terrace and a picnic area. Price for cappuccino there is approximately 2-3 fr. Near the panoramic terrace are comfortable toilets. The Monte San Salvatore funicular is one of three operational funiculars within the Lugano area.
The funicolare is like a ropeway bringing you up the mountain. This funicolare is small and has only 4-5 cabins, but at least it is air-conditioned and has a glass ceiling for you to view the outside. The cable leaves every half an hour, but don't make yourself too comfortable as you will have to change cables halfway up. It cost about $26-29 chf for a round trip.
