Festung Fürigen — Attraction in Stansstad

I am a native English Speaker so I used Google Translate for my German Friends (see below for German). If you enjoy military history, Fortress Furigen is really a great place to visit. We visited Lucerne, Switzerland at the end of November 2016. As part of our pre-trip preparation we watched the Rick Steves Switzerland Video where he visited the fort. It looked interesting so we booked a tour. NOTE: during the off-season tours are less frequent so I recommend contacting the fort before you visit.

We chose to book a private guided tour. Our guide Simon met us at the entrance and spent several hours showing us all aspects of the fort while explaining the history and why the fort was was initially constructed.

You can reach the fort easily by local train from Lucerne, the fort is very well maintained and makes for nice family outing.

Fun day trip from Lucerne with amazing views along the way. Tour was fantastic and included English audio guides. Very interactive - can aim a cannon and even wear the Swiss soldier uniforms. Also appreciated the modern touch with day-glow signage and LED projections. If you get the Swiss Rail Pass this museum is free. A must...

Enjoyed the visit and the insight into the strategy used by Switzerland leading up to and during WWII. An approximate 20 minute walk from the Stansstad rail station. The exhibit was well organized and most everything had English in addition to German descriptions....
