Known for its spectacular views of the Matterhorn and its alpine landscapes, Sunnegga is accessible via a quick and efficient funicular ride from Zermatt, which adds to the convenience and appeal of the destination.

Once you arrive at Sunnegga, you will be greeted with breathtaking panoramic views of the Matterhorn and surrounding mountains. It's a great spot for taking memorable photos and simply enjoying the beauty of the Alps.

It serves as a starting point for several hiking trails catering to different levels of difficulty. One of the most popular trails is the Five Lakes Walk, which takes you through picturesque landscapes and, as the name suggests, five beautiful lakes.

Lake Leisee is a tranquil alpine lake located at Sunnegga. It's an excellent spot for relaxation, picnicking, or even taking a refreshing swim in the summer months. The lake's clear, calm waters reflect the surrounding mountains, creating a stunning backdrop.

Sunnegga is a family-friendly destination, offering activities suitable for all ages. During the summer, children can enjoy the play area and the floating wooden platform on Lake Leisee. In the winter, the area transforms into a snow paradise for families to enjoy.

In the winter season, Sunnegga becomes a hub for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. The area is part of the larger Zermatt ski area, offering various slopes and trails for different skill levels.

Depending on your interests, choose your visit time wisely. For winter sports enthusiasts, the skiing season typically runs from late November to early May. For hikers and nature lovers, the summer season (June to September) offers lush landscapes and...

📍 Sunnegga @Zermatt 🇨🇭 Scenic Mountain Station & Gateway to 5 Lakes Hike

Sunnegga is a sunny alpine terrace above Zermatt, easily reached via a steep underground funicular. It’s not just a viewpoint—it’s a starting point for breathtaking alpine hikes, including the iconic 5-Seenweg (5 Lakes Trail).

🚠 Our Route: Sunnegga → Blauherd → Zermatt Hike From Sunnegga, we took the cable car to Blauherd, enjoying the panoramic ascent. From Blauherd, we began our 5 Lakes hike, passing through: • Stellisee (famous for perfect Matterhorn reflections) • Grindjisee • Grünsee • Moosjisee • Leisee (near Sunnegga)

Instead of returning via transport, we continued hiking all the way back down to Zermatt, taking in lush meadows, peaceful trails, and constant Matterhorn views. It was a fulfilling, nature-filled descent that gave us both exercise and quiet alpine beauty.

🧭 Travel Tips • Start early—clouds often cover the Matterhorn after 3 PM. • Weather changes fast—check the forecast each morning. • Bring picnic snacks and water—there are plenty of scenic stops along the trail. • Sturdy hiking shoes are a must. • Sunnegga to Blauherd cable car is convenient and offers a scenic shortcut up the mountain.

⛰️ Final Thoughts This route is one of the best ways to experience the 5-Seenweg without backtracking, and the hike down to Zermatt adds a peaceful, unhurried finish to the adventure. Highly recommended for those looking for a half- to full-day hike with alpine views, turquoise lakes, and glimpses of Valais Blacknose...

I have been skiing around Switzerland since 2015 and I must say Sunnegga was an incredible experience. As a beginner to intermediate level skier, I was thrilled to find that Sunnega offers a variety of paths that cater to skiers of all levels.

The slopes at Sunnega are well-maintained and provide the perfect terrain for skiers of every skill level. Whether you're a beginner like me or an advanced skier like my family, there are plenty of options to choose from. The variety of paths ensures that everyone can find something that suits their abilities and preferences.

One of the highlights of skiing at Sunnega is the breathtaking view. The resort is located in a stunning mountainous region, and the scenery is simply awe-inspiring. As I glided down the slopes, I couldn't help but be captivated by the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. It truly added an extra level of enjoyment to my skiing experience.

Sunnega also offers excellent facilities and amenities. The ski lifts are efficient and well-maintained, ensuring minimal wait times and easy access to the slopes. The resort also has a variety of restaurants and cafes where you can refuel and relax after a day on the slopes.

I can't wait to return and explore more of what Sunnega...
