Let me begin from the start. Upon entering the dining area the hostess and server made eye contact with me. They were clearly aware I was standing there waiting to be seated, but instead ignored me and approached other customers. I stood there for at least 20-30 minutes before finally getting help. They saw I was there first, but walked past me and approached the people that arrived after me. I was never greeted nor did the hostess and server ever say hi or was nice. In fact they seemed very upset to have to even be there working.
After I finally was seated it took another 30 minutes before anyone came by to take my order. There were others that were seated 10-15 minutes after me, but they were greeted immediately and were asked to take their orders before me. I waved down a server multiple times and was ignored. After another 15 minutes passed by I FINALLY was asked if my order could be taken.
I ordered fondue and two of steaks. The fondue came out first followed by the steaks. However, the food runner that brought out our steaks did not give them to us. Instead, she asked the server if the steaks went to usvor not. The server replied to the food runner, "It doesn't matter". Then told the food runner to stop bothering her so our food was taken away and not given to us. The same food runner came back 10 minutes later with our food (the same exact plates she brought the first time around) and by that time it has already gone cold.
Throughout my entire time of dining there not once was I never asked how my food was or if everything was ok. We were neglected during the whole dining experience at Chez Vrony. Even until the very end when we waved down the server 6 different times to get the bill. Not once did she acknowledge us. Instead, she went to the other tables to our right and left. We asked her for the bill 5 times. Everytime she said ok, but instead came back with other people's bill, but not ours. Finally another table asked for their bill and a minute later she brought their bill out and let them pay immediately. By this point I was furious and just got up and was about to find the owner and complain to her, but this server stopped me immediately and said ok give me a moment. There I was standing there waiting for her to bring me my bill, but instead she went back to chatting it up with the customers sitting next to me. I was very fed up after she did that and walked away, but she pulled me back and finally said, "Ok, I'll get your bill". It shouldn't even have needed to get to that point. I waited a full hour before I was able to get my bill and pay which is ridiculous. I have dined at many 3 Michelin star restaurants so dining here is not my first time entering a restaurant that is ranked Michelin. For Chez Vrony a restaurant that is considered as a Michelin star that definitely does not meet the standards of...
Read moreThere is a reason that it is difficult to get a reservation at Chez Vrony. The view and the food are fantastic. Absolutely make a reservation here. TIPS for NON-SKIERS. It took me several asks along the way to find Chez Vrony. Its a about a 30 minute HIKE down to the restaurant. You have to have hiking boots (and maybe a hiking stick) if its really snowy you may want those grippy bottom things for your shoes. Give yourself an HOUR to get there from Zermatt Village You have to take the train from the Zermatt Sunnegga Station (you need a ticket for this / or your ski pass) you take this Awesome underground train up the mountain to Sunnegga and exit there. SKIERS - will simply ski down to Findeln (honestly, this is the best way to get there, but if you don't ski keep reading) NON-SKIERS (about 30 mins hike from here) - when you exit the train you will see a tunnel to the kids adventure area - walk through the tunnel. Take the small lift down to the kids area, it actually a very nice view, then exit on to the snow. You are going to walk about 100ft along the side of the ski slope and on your left you will see a HOT PINK POLES with a trail entrance - Follow the poles down the trail. You will pass through this little Hotel/village looking place - there will be PINK poles and arrows directing you to Vrony. Just follow the pink poles and trail. You will cross a ski run/slope - walk straight across - follow the poles. You are about 5 mins away at this point. Good Job! You will see Vrony flags and the restaurant. OK - Now to get back. I went back the same way I came down, mostly because I knew the path and so I felt sure of myself. It is uphill which was a hall, but since I was not skiing that day (huge mistake on my part) I wanted the exercise. You can ask the staff at Vrony and they will advise on alternative options like hiking down to a chair lift and taking that up to Sunnegga. You have to take the underground train back down to Zermatt.
OK. Real quick on the food. YUM!!! Get the cheese fondue, its so fun, and warm, and Swiss (they have gluten free bread if you ask). My kids had the One and Only Vrony Burger - it was delicious and it should be for 40 francs. The view is amazing and the Matterhorn, is well, majestic. Hope this helps. I should have taken more photos of the path, but I didn't think about writing this till it was all...
Read moreAmazing. Ive read the reviews and was abit skeptical before coming here. But omg, it was great. It was the best thing we had in switzerland. Best. We had the burger (with cheese of course), and the goat cheese ravioli, along with aperol spritz so we can have a fruity drink in the alps.
The view was outstanding. We made a reservation and were there on time and one of the first few in line so we managed to snag a seat at the front on the counter. Sun was shining, skies were clear, matterhorn decided to say hi. Great view, and even better to be dining while revelling in its glory. While i thought that the view might be what people like about the place (and the food was maybe mediocre), i was completely wrong.
The food was the star of the show. We could not stop focusing on the food and eating. Despite the altitude which might have numbed our taste buds abit, the food was soooo tasty.
The burger was a perfect medium, juicy, well seasoned, given a good crunch from the buns and slaw, and brought together by the sauce. It is definitely expensive. But for swiss prices, i think its very reasonable (worth it, in fact). This was definitely one of the best burgers we have ever had.
But the ravioli. Impeccable. Immaculate. The balance within the dish was crazily delicate and extremely great. The cheese was strong but not overpowering. The compote at the bottom helped to give a fresh taste profile to combat the heavy flavours. And the sauce. I licked the sauce off the plate. Not kidding. The sauce was the best thing i had there. I normally like burgers more, but this was just mindblowingly good. Please get this. It will change your view on life or something.
The hike is no easy feat, but it sure is worth it. The prices were very reasonable given the quality and view.
Really amazing dishes, great view, nice people. Great place to chill too. We really loved it. This is the best place we ate at in the whole of switzerland. We will remember this for the rest...
