If you wanted to catch sunrise, this is the train station you need to board the forest train. The station open as early as 3:30am so that you can get the tickets. (Or you can buy a day before). ☺️
We boarded the first train in the morning, it was so well prepped as you could see the train engineers are already running the check at the trains.
Then you could see they bring in the train, like a little ceremony-vibe. Felt so surreal!
The station is well maintained and clean. This is the main station near to the open space car park and eateries. So do expect the crowd.

Read moreWent here to stay for Christmas and hiked around the woods. Lots of food booths and small craft shopping. They have a sunrise get-together every day. If you stay outside of the park, you have to get up incredibly early to catch a shuttle. I stayed in the park, and the shuttle picked us up and got us there with some time spare. Too bad for me, it was too cloudy. I say pay the price and stay in the park. The hotel is very nice, with huge breakfast and dinner buffets. There were a ton of people there. 阿里山鐵路的正式名詞是「阿里山森林鐵路」Alisan Forest Railway,並非阿里山登山鐵路或高山鐵路。而所謂的森林鐵路是指為開採森林資源而舖設的產業鐵道,主要以美洲國家居多,例如美國的Cass Scenic Railroad即是,類似的產業鐵道還有淘金鐵道,不少也利用Shay作為森林地區集材的動力。雖然今日的阿里山森林鐵路早已不伐木,沿途的森林景觀仍是他的觀光重點之一,仍然是一條森林鐵路。相對的,有許多國家的登山鐵路並非是森林鐵路,如印度大吉嶺喜馬拉雅鐵路,瑞士少女峰登山鐵路即是;澳大利亞的Puffing Billy是典型的森林鐵路,卻連登山鐵路也稱不上。因此阿里山鐵路擁有最繁複的鐵道多元性,集森林鐵道、登山鐵道、與高山鐵路於一身,這一點非常值得國人珍惜。
其實登山鐵路與高山鐵路是有所差別的。一般所謂的登山鐵路mountain railway,是指具有較大路線坡度者;鐵路為克服地形坡度,以各種工程技術,U字形鐵道、之字形鐵道、螺旋形鐵道、齒軌技術等特殊工法,翻山越嶺以完成運輸目的;傳統鐵路或有純粹以加大鐵路機車Engine推力即可完成者,例如台鐵以前的舊山線必須在列車尾端加掛輔助機車亦是。因此所謂的登山鐵路,以克服地形坡度而言,至少坡度達千分之30以上才比較具有登山的特殊性。
高山鐵路,比較少見這類說法,一般是指行駛在中高海拔地區的鐵路,但是未必具備大坡度。在大陸國家也可能由中低海拔至高海拔,如瑞士少女峰鐵路567m爬升至3454m。一般而言,至少鐵路必須有行經海拔2000公尺以上的路段,因為中海拔地區為1500-2500公尺,高海拔地區為2500公尺以上。例如祕魯的安地斯山鐵路高居海拔4000公尺以上,是非常典型的高山鐵路
