An experience with Chinese Tea
A tea house with a wide selection of Chinese Teas, sourced locally and from Mainland China. The price of tea varies from the type of tea, a young fresh tasting tea will be affordable and mature old tea will cost more. Kind of like wine.
The tea sommeliers here are very helpful in helping you select the type of tea you want. So if you are not sure of what tea to drink, ask away. You will be given a tea set with your selection of tea leaves, where you will be taught to brew your own tea. So first time chinese tea drinkers, fret not you're in good hands. Sit back, relax and enjoy your hot cups of tea. The ambiance of the tea house is nice and provides a comfortable and relaxing environment to sip your tea.
Highly recommended for those who want to experience the culture of drinking Chinese Tea. I loved every moment of it, drinking 40 year old Unfermented Pu'er from Yunnan which set me back 380NTD. Stayed here for close to 2 hours. It was a good experience and I'll definitely be coming back.
Getting here is about 15 mins walk from Daan Forest Park MRT Station, just walk across the park and you are...
Read moreWhat you may want to know about this place prior to your visit: It is popular among tourists in the way as a Hofbrāuhaus is popular: People go there to see some clichés materialize. And Wisteria does the job. Of course, this is not about humptata music and oversized portions of meat served in an atmosphere that makes you think Bavarians are caught in a time warp of Gemütlichkeit, Wisteria, conjures up an idea of purity, refinement and Zen-like attitude that will easily make you believe that aloof and decent services are siblings. I have been to Wisteria for years. And I keep on returning. So I know that tatami style rooms are for orders including food only. The food, while not bad, I would not particularly recommend. What I do recommend is to unwind, read the pleasant descriptions of the different teas, order no less than one type per person and enjoy the preparation that will cater to more than your taste buds. Before all make sure that your friends, family or whoever is sitting next to you can also derive some joy from this. Then you are likely to have a wonderful time at this gem of Japanese...
Read moreVery let down I didn’t enjoy Wistaria as much as I looked forward to it.
Lunch was not great, chicken meal had a super salty gravy while the meat itself was tasteless (not sure how this happened). Fish was better and more appetising, but this standard is honestly a dozen a dime in Chinese households. While dining I thought I would’ve been much happier at Muji cafe given a similar serving style.
The peanut black sugar mochi was the only saving grace of the experience as the tea that came with the lunch set did not have your own pot of water for you to do tea properly. You could request for a hot water refill if you catch one of their servers though, but we could not enjoy the full potential of the tea leaves without the whole set up.
Just a let down, perhaps you might have a better experience coming here for tea exclusively. Completely marred the experience for me and had to cut my plans of having proper tea there after lunch.
Side note: take a walk at the park nearby, lots of people bring interesting pets out. There’s also a wide variety of...
