It's currently (as of 202010) more of a park to take a relaxed stroll than a zoo to see the wonders of the animal kingdom. The space allocated for humans is significantly larger than the space for the animals. The number of animals on display there is quite small. Lots would need to be changed for this zoo to be worth recommending to animal lovers. (I've been to this same zoo before the most recent renovation and I am sad to report that the renovation does not seem to have made it a better zoo, especially if the wellbeing of the animals is of the main concern.)

Having said that, I did have a nice time marveling at one type of monkeys there as they had a couple of very young monkeys that their parents kept in close proximity for protection. It was also neat to get to see the hippo feed on some sort of long grass.

The entrance fee was quite inexpensive, but I did wish that the zoo was more for animals than for human...

This is a zoo in my city, Hsinchu, where I grew up. It cherishes a lot of memories of mine. The sidewalks for people in the zoo are nice. Well, in my opinion, I rather say that they are perfect, it's absolutely a good place for you to walk your dogs and spend time with your family or who you love. On the contrary, the habitats for animals are not that good, they're way too close to tourists, animals over there couldn't be well-protected, most of them are terrified by the crowd and even get sick, anxiously, irritability and so on. From the way I see, the zoo is not only a place for people to rest but also a place where animals live. Thus, humanities and animals should be fair, hope the government can respect animals more and think more for animals if you can. But I have to say is that, after three years of rebuilding, the environment has become better, this is a truth and I appreciate it from the deep...

Hsinchu Zoo is one of my favorite places to visit from time to time, especially with a lot of green landscape and quite smooth access trails for kids and the elderly. Besides those amazing spots of animals living , there is a fabulous Starbucks coffee shop in the Park area where used to be one of historical buildings in Hsinchu Zoo. However, we found the stairway access to the 2nd floor of Starbucks Coffee Shop was full of SPIDERWEBS almost everywhere , which gave us an astonishing sense of Halloween Decoration Could Hsinchu Zoo Administration Team please make the environment more attractive with tidiness and cleanliness for Zoo visitors a better impression. We really appreciate the friendly atmosphere you create for Zoo Visitors. Thank you so much.

Went there after the reopening now, knowing that it would be a rather small zoo. The experience was okay and short (30-45 min). There aren't a lot of animals. The entrance fee as a student with 50$ is okay, but I would at most recommend going here once. But it's nothing to plan a day trip around or take time out of your schedule. It's not bad but for a better zoo experience I recommend a bigger one, such as the one in Taipei. In general the areas for the animals looked fine but also rather plain for animals that might need more to play with.

I know zoos are not the holiest of places. This zoo, however, is well maintained, the animals have decent amounts of space, they look healthy, and most of them are in numbers and do not live in isolation. It is a good place to spend half a day on a weekend to be with family or friends. It is very convenient and friendly for people's different needs. It may be a small zoo but it is good fun. It is super affordable (50 dollars) and convenient (pay through Easy Card) too.
