Is it an amusement park? Is it a religious side? Who knows. It’s definitely a great place to visit. The landscape, the architecture and the artefacts are stunning. Everything here is build on a very elevated scale.

But considering this is a religious side, I am turned off by quite a few money-making things, such as their “exit through the gift shop” strategies, the tacky animated dolls that poor “blessed” water into cups (of course for a donation!) and the collection of underground temple artefacts (mostly from China) makes me wonder, if this is another British museum…?!

Again, all things considered, you...

FGS Buddha Museum is where you want to go. Skip the actual FGS because you will then have to trek, on foot, a very long distance to come face-to-face with the enormous golden Buddha. Unfortunately, the shops that first greet you at the Memorial Hall are all driven by commerce. Expensive store fronts and eateries plague the entrance. However, if you push past the glamorous gates, the enormous golden Buddha will smile at you, rewarding you for your troubles. Please take the elevator to visit the 4 stupas that form the inner museum. This will be the closest any visitor can get to the...

Impressed with the scale of the place. A a huge place. A huge sitting Buddha statue. Several souvenir shops in the place. Some items are very expensive. We were on a group (30 plus foreign students from a local college in Kaohsiung) tour. Experience a tea ceremony ourselves. An orientation lecture. I am fro South Korea. I have never seen this big Buddhist kingdom before. May take several visits to understand the details of the place.

A very large group of Buddhist buildings includes catering, shops, and a hotel, I think. In the Luner New Year period, they also held special activities such as a parade, lantern exhibition, and so on. Note that during public holidays, the public transportation when returning could be overcrowded. Driving to there is strongly recommended.
