Took the route from Shandong Rd. Gloves and long pants are recommended! It is one of the best hikes I took on my recent trip to Jiufen.

I took two hours to go from Shandong Rd to Mt Keelung main peak (1 hour from the road to east peak, then another hour along the ridgeline to the main peak.)

Ropes were in good working condition and the conditions were good as it is currently summer season. The trail is likely to be a lot more dangerous when wet. There are also some spiderwebs here and there with huge spiders on them right next to the trails which can appear out of nowhere, so watch out!

The vegetation near the main peak is extremely dense and can cut, but otherwise the trails are relatively well marked out and worth the effort – the views are spectacular. Do also wear proper shoes and consider helmets if hiking in a group as there are many loose rocks that can come off the steep (almost vertical) inclines while someone is going up.

The trail was completely empty on a weekday.

Will definitely recommend for those looking for adventure! I really...

After the easy hike up to Keelung peak from Jiuphen on the stairs, we were unprepared for the descent to the East peak and down to the sea. We are fit but didn't have gloves for the ropes down the MANY STEEP descents. Also the grass cuts on legs and arms were painful. It's fun and very challenging and we were exhausted at the bottom. Ensure you have sturdy shoes, gloves, long pants and adequate water and time to finish in daylight. I found it a...

Difficult trail to get here, but once you've already hit the earlier peak, it's not too bad to get here. Most of the time this place is socked in with clouds or fog, but if you happen to catch it when it's sunny, it's beautiful. You cna see up and down the coast line and see some spectacular landscape. This far out there is a bit of a sea breeze, too, which helps the...
