A good alternative trail that leads to Shakadang Trail, instead of walking the Shakadang tunnel. The rise in steps of the stairs may get steep at some point of time but they are generally safely built with sufficient handrails for support. It feels like 70% stairs and 30% rocky trail but it takes you to a nice vantage point of the Liwu river. There is a part with two bridges parallel with each other, choose one to your liking 😂.

From the visitor center, you have two options walking through the tunnel (quicker but not super interesting) or walking this trail. You can start from Taroko terrace (Taroko visitor center) and go through Shakadang tunnel for 300 meters. After trail ends, you reach start of Shakadang trail. You can either to Shakadang trail or catch a bus going towards Tiansieng after climbing up and crossing Shakadang bridge.
