Old Plane Airplane Observation Deck — Attraction in Zhongshan District

Good place to hike and beautiful views from this lookout for TAIPEI 101, Mitsugoshi Building, Miramar Ferris Wheel, Songshan Airport, various bridges, and etc. Laodifang translates literally to “The Old Place” or better as “The Usual Place” where people commonly gather. I like the paper airplane statue and blue paper plane bench, a nice touch to the plane spotting that goes on from Songshan Airport. Getting here is intermediate climb and there are various starting areas. It tends to be windy so be prepared with proper jacket and clothing. Went here during Taiwan Lunar New Year Holiday. There are 2 ways to reach here, from 圓山風景區 & 劍潭山 通北街 登山口. If you want to go directly to this viewing deck, it's better to go from 劍潭山 通北街 登山口 because there are paved stairs & not to off-road path. The path from 圓山風景區 has several viewing decks which you can see Taipei city from mountain while hiking but some of the path are off-road.

If you plan to capture Taipei 101 from this deck, please prepare telephoto lens. It's not recommended to use smartphone. Don't forget to see the weather forecast too. Make sure that it will be sunny all the day, otherwise you can't capture the detail of Taipei 101. It was partly cloudy when I arrived here...

HOT AND SWEATY! we walked through the decently kept neighbourhood tracks from the main road across from the station. Gets muddy some parts but google maps is trusty to keep you on track.

Once you end up high enough on the track, you'll end up at a concrete road and continue to follow that upwards. There are small structures painted with numbers so go in ascending order to reach the top.

You can see taipei 101 on a clear day I think! But bring Taiwan we weren't lucky that day. Plenty of views down to Shilin night...
