There are some interesting and unique items sold within the market among the bits and bobs, and as with most cheap market places there’s usually something useful for everyone to buy.
It’s a large indoor market and can get pretty hot inside during the hotter months after 12pm. It’s better to visit earlier if possible. The coffee bar beside the Mekong at the centre of the market has good coffee and relaxing atmosphere, You enter at the point where the narrow enclosed street widens out at a junction and go through to the riverside via the shop selling wine and other up market goods.
There are several restaurants at the downstream end of the market that sell a range of Thai food on the first floor overlooking the river, There is also a good Vietnamese restaurant at the upstream end of the market.
