Mai Khao Beach is a great place for plane spotting in Phuket. The beach is clean and well-maintained, and the water is crystal clear. It's very close to the airport, so you can watch planes taking off and landing while enjoying the sun, sand, and sea.
The beach is easily accessible by foot from nearby resorts or by taking a tuk-tuk from Soi 6 to the public park. Once there, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the planes against the blue sky and water. Be aware that there is no shade, so bring sunscreen, hats, and umbrellas.
The best time to go is in the morning when it's cooler and the light is better. You can also check the flight schedules to time your visit for the best photo opportunities. Sometimes you may have to wait a while for the next plane to pass by, but it's worth it for the perfect shot.
Apart from plane spotting, there are other things to do on the beach. You can have some delicious coconut ice cream nearby, swing by the tree, or just relax on the sand. However, the flights can be a bit of an issue as everyone wants to take pictures with them, which can cause a bit of a crowd.
Overall, Mai Khao Beach is a great place for anyone who loves planes and wants to enjoy a beautiful beach at the same time. Don't forget to bring your camera and capture the...
Read moreWhat an awesome view! It’s so strange to be so close to a moving plane! Do not believe the rumour that they have stopped people from visiting this viewpoint, as it’s simply not true. However, we were greeted by security after following google maps down a small road, I think we took a wrong turn, but they were happy to oblige and let us past after explaining we were there to view the planes, not stay at the hotel.
We would particularly recommend visiting the airport viewpoint at sunset, as it can be a really picturesque time. Especially when a plane takes off and you can see it flying away into the sunset/distance. The planes are extremely loud, so we wouldn’t recommend visiting with very young children, or those who generally struggle with loud noises.
The only negative thing about the viewpoint is the amount of trash/plastic. It all looks to be in a well defined line, so it seems potentially related to the jet propulsion from the plans causing it to collect up in a neat long line. If you can look past that, then it’ll definitely be...
Read moreTo get to this point you will have to pay a fee. You can avoid this if you go to Nai Yang Beach via Nai yang Beach centre point and go straight to the Beach. There is Ticket counter to right of this point but just go left or straight and enter the Beach. The down side is, this way you will have to walk almost 2.5 kms to reach near the runway.
Always go in the morning preferably 8 am. As the wind is blowing from the east. Hence planes take off and land from the west. Also it will be less crowded. Take an umbrella and lots of water. Check flighradar to ensure that planes are landing from west. When planes are taking off make sure you take some cover or go away from the runway because during takeoff the jet engine blows a lot of sand which might hurt your eyes. Sunglasses are a must.
This point is very far from phuket city and the attractions there. You might need to book hotel nearby. Never go here after 12 Noon. There is high possibility that planes may take off...
