Ban Phraya Wichit Songkhram Ruins — Attraction in Si Sunthon

The historic site of the island, which used to be the residence of Prai Vichit Songkaram - Governor of Phuket 1869-1878. He was also the founder of the tin mining industry in Phuket Town and was instrumental in the development of the island. During the years of his rule, the town developed rapidly. Thanks to his diplomatic skills and resourcefulness, he was able to attract Chinese investors who invested a lot of money in the development of tin mining and consequently in the development of the city as a whole.

The town grew rich and prosperous, but in 1876 there was an uprising of tin mine workers, which was called the “Chinese Mutiny”. During this period, its holdings were reconstructed to serve as a fortress. The mutiny was put down.
