The Udon Thani City Museum offers a captivating journey through the rich history and culture of the region. Housed in a modern and spacious facility, the museum showcases a diverse collection of artifacts, photographs, and interactive exhibits that chronicle the evolution of Udon Thani from ancient times to the present day.

Visitors are treated to a well-curated display that highlights the area's agricultural heritage, its role in the Vietnam War, and its vibrant local traditions. The museum's layout is thoughtfully organized, guiding guests through each era with clarity and insight.

One of the standout features is the museum's attention to detail, with informative signage and multimedia presentations enhancing the visitor experience. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply curious about the city's past, there's something to captivate every visitor.

The museum also serves as a valuable educational resource, offering guided tours and workshops for students and researchers alike. Additionally, its central location makes it easily accessible for tourists exploring Udon Thani's bustling streets.

Free to visit museum. Apart from a piece on the ending of the Vietnam conflict, all the audio and audio/visual presentations are in Thai. However, written descriptions are in both Thai and English throughout the museum. There's quite a bit to see here on two floors, and you just follow the one-way route. You have the geological history of the Isan area described at the start. Udon Thani actually means Northern Town. It is interesting to learn about the history of Udon Thani and how it came into existence. I was particularly interested in the influence American had in Udon, resulting from the establishment of military bases in the area. It affected the region both culturally and economically as personnel needed a variety of facilities and services from the local communities. This impact carried forward into the Cold War era where Thai & American governments worked together in deterring the spread of communism in Asia. If you are Thai or understand Thai language, you can pick up a card at reception, which you can use to activate the audio/visual elements...

The museum is free to enter and the staff help visitors with friendly advice. There are white foot prints painted on the floor to guide you through and make sure you don’t miss out on any particular display. The building itself has a sort of French colonial feeling. The displays are modest but interesting giving an important insight into the history of Udon Thani. Give yourself a couple of hours to do justice to the displays and the building. Don’t be afraid to ask questions from the friendly staff, take time to read the info on the displays. Check out the towns rich aviation history and pause long enough to assimilate the rich history associated with this town. Worth a visit ??? If you’re going to visit Udon Thani, check out the museum and find out about the wonderful people of this Province, you’ll be...

Before you even walk inside this funky place, you ll be impressed by the external architecture of the two (2) main buildings - with registration and administration housed in a very much contemporary structure and, then into display section is pure classical. Adjacent to Nong Prajak park, with public transport nearby, as well as ample parking provided, it's location is a plus. I really enjoyed the Vietnam War displays and the 60s through to 70s, memorabilia another highlight. There is an impressive statue of Prince Parjak and insightful storyboards on the modern history of Udon Thani province. Photographs, artifacts, sculptures, paintings and interactive audio-visuals displays aplenty (see my YouTube and Instagram ...), makes this a must-do in UDE Town.

I can not imagine this is a very modern museum until I explored it. I took a city shuttle bus tour organized by a local foundation to promote Udon Thani’s history and culture. The collections and displays are all very high technology and interactive in some ways. I spent around have an hour here and learned lots of historical information about Udon Thani, what is the origin founding of this city and how it was rapidly developed during the World War II as an US Air Force base. Also the local cultural mixed with western cultural as well. It is a well designed museum if you visit Udon Thani, you must learn the history and development of the city. I believe local people are very proud of this museum.
