Well, what a difficult, arduous climb. The views are not really worth the work, I think. The destination is simply a flag. Good exercise and a challenge, that's about it.
The start is the yellow sign trio at the road intersection. Park on the side of the road (not the highway, the Yenikoy road). Go in, immediately turn right and away you go. Easy. First 200m is hand-and-foot but no worry, it gets easier after that.
Good things: path is well marked (painted stripes and brown/mud stained path), near impossible to get lost, even though view is constrained frequently. You're never far from the city, noise still gets up there. Path is doable without special climbing skills or assists. Shorts, T-shirt, hat, sunscreen, 1L water pp. Nothing dangerous at all. IF wet, rainy, the trail will be a slippery muddy slide, super dangerous. There is sporadic shade, lots of trees and bushes.
Not-so-good things: wow, it may be 2km distance but elevation and grade are very challenging. You better be in great shape to tackle this one to the flag on top. (Not me, 90mins, I got 300m google-distance, clear view of the flag, that was that). It took 65mins simply to get down. Expect 2+hrs to get up. Down is tricky, a lot of skidding and sliding on dirt-lubricated-rock.
There is no place to rest, no bench, no seats, no flat rocks, no smooth sandy pebbles, or grassy flats. Zero. Lots of shade, but no place to sit (bring a blanket?). A lot of thorny bushes makes the forest inhospitable. You'll be standing, climbing, twisting the whole time. (Might be flat at the flag).
There are maybe 4 spots with clear view of the sea, town and islands. Trees obscure the rest of the way. Nothing to see at all. As you get higher there's a giant cave and rock wall but nothing...
Read moreIf you love walking, being in nature and having a spectacular view then this walk is for you. The walk starts just above the town on the main road, were there is road side parking and picnic benches. There is a sign post that indicates the path to the cave and then up a little further to the amazing view point were the flag is. When you start there is a little rocky gorge just after the sign post you must go right, yes right, right right right, not left or up the gorge, go over the little gorge and stick to your right were the main path starts. Follow the red and white paint markers on the rocks that indicates the correct path. The correct path follows the line of the road for about 100 metres then heads upwards. It's a very clear path. It's about 3 hour round trip and worth every step just fir the views. Take water and some food, strong shoes and always take your rubbish home do not...
Read moreDO NOT CLIMB UP THE ROCKS! TURN RIGHT INSTEAD! It's a slight sharp right. You will find yourself on a very clear trail which is easy to follow once you're on it. Trail is a dirt path by the orange signage. It's a steep hike and can be a bit slippery on the way down so take extra care. Look out for rock statues and red markers along the way. Absolutely loved it. Views are breathtaking. Totally worth it. Cave near the top is also pretty epic. If you are in town might be worth taking a taxi to Yenikoy signage. I walked from the centre of town uphill but would've been good to save...
