Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle — Attraction in Kamianets-Podilskyi Urban Hromada

Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle is a former Ruthenian-Lithuanian castle and a later three-part Polish fortress located in the historic city of Kamianets-Podilskyi, Ukraine, in the historic region of Podolia in the western part of the country. Its name is attributed to the root word kamin', from the Slavic word for stone.

Historical accounts date Kamianets-Podilskyi Castle to the early 14th century, although recent archaeological evidence has proved human existence in the area back to the 12th or 13th century. Initially built to protect the bridge connecting the city with the mainland, the castle sits on top of a peninsula carved out by the winding Smotrych River, forming a natural defense system for Kamianets-Podilskyi's historic Old Town neighborhood.

Its location on a strategic transport crossroad in Podolia made the castle a prime target for foreign invaders, who rebuilt the castle to suit their own needs, adding to its multicultural architectural diversity. Specifically, the complex consists of the Old Town fortified by King Casimir IV, the Old Castle rebuilt by Kings Sigismund I and Stephen Báthory, and the New Castle founded by Kings Sigismund III and Władysław IV. However, in spite of the many architectural and engineering changes to the original structure, the castle still forms a coherent architectural design, being one of the few medieval constructions in modern-day Ukraine that is relatively well preserved.

Along with the Old Town neighborhood, the castle is listed as part of the National Historical-Architectural Sanctuary "Kam'ianets" and the National Environmental Park "Podilski Tovtry". Насправді ззовні фортеця виглядає набагато привабливіше та захоплюючіше ніж зсередини. Почну із входу, довелось стояти в черзі за квитками, як виявилось оплата карткою недоступна, до банкомату йти по палючому сонці через міст не дуже класно, про таке потрібно попереджати як мінімум табличкою на касі чи ще якось. Вхід в браму самої фортеці квитки ніхто не перевіряв. Я розумію, що автентичність і всяке таке але вона настільки відшліфована ногами, що неможливо піднятись настільки слизько, до того ж крива і можна впасти. Для людей з інвалідністю на кріслах колісних доступності немає жодної, і це розчаровує адже це дуже популярне туристичне місце, із звичайною дитячою коляскою туди прийти це ще теж той квест. Всередині купа закладів на різну тематику, кафе, продукти, сувеніри, кухня на відкритому повітрі і так далі. Туалети в дуже поганому стані і те, що вони безкоштовні не робить їм привілегії бути у такому стані. Всередині є купа музеїв за які потрібно буде платити окремо, тож ваша екскурсія не обійдеться лише у 100 грн за вхід. Кожен музей окремо оплачується. А якщо загалом, то майже немає на що подивитись, відчути масштаби також не вдалось бо половина було або закрита на реконструкцію або туди просто неможна було пройти. Якщо ви проїздом то заїхати можна, а суто заради фортеці, я би не їхав. Доречі ще якщо ви на авто їдете легковому то приготуйте 10 грн за платну дорогу, а якщо мінівен то 15 грн. Хоча дороги як такої там не існує, і чому вона платна також не зрозуміло, бо там можна залишити всю ходову автомобіля на тій дорозі так і не доїхавши до фортеці. На виході вже доречі перевіряли квитки у тих хто заходив, що створило незручну чергу на вхід та вихід, адже він дуже вузький і неможливо пройти одночасно в два боки як на вхід так і на вихід, можливо на вихідні дні або коли багато людей, варто би було відкривати браму. Бо стояти під палючим сонцем і чекати поки хтось тебе пропустить не дуже класно, до того ж на вхід всі стояли в черзі майже у дверях, тож пройти...
