This is a great little place for steam locomotive enthusiasts, I take my train mad child quite often and the people who run the shed are friendly and informative - even taking my boy onto the footplate and teaching him the controls. There is also the provision of a nice little cafe with activities for little ones. We used to visit the West Shed quite often by accessing via a footpath that runs by the Midland Railway line, however unfortunately this is now blocked so access is only via paying to ride the Midland...

Read moreLovely museum and friendly staff, which is unfortunately located within the midland railway, but isnt part of it. They have a royal coach which if you ask, you can go in. Theres also a cafe to get a cup of tea, and they are dog friendly. Two large Princess class locos are normally resident here, but they do occasionally get loaned out. Very nice exhibits, which is more than i can say about the Midland...
