Whenever I go to Appleby I always pop in through the gates to view the almshouses. They are historic and incredibly peaceful and remind me of the almshouses in Bruges. There is a calm quiet peace to be found in the little chapel in the corner which is lovely and often open. Then walk across the courtyard and see the beautiful garden and orchard...
