A beautiful, peaceful gem in Barnsley!

Absolutely love Locke Park – it's one of the best parks around! It’s dog-friendly, which makes it perfect for walks. The park is huge, with loads of space to relax or play – we used to play football here all the time!

It also has tennis, basketball, and soccer courts, which are great for staying active. One of my favorite things is the charming old structures scattered around – they look almost ancient and add so much character. Perfect for a photostop or just to admire.

There are also several benches dedicated to loved ones, which is a lovely and touching feature. Whether you're out for a jog, a picnic, or just some frA beautiful, peaceful gem in Barnsley!

Beautiful park, visited regularly since being a little girl, now bring the grandchildren. I would like to mention The Friends Of Lockpark who volunteer to keep the park weed free, clean from rubbish and who help to plant the lovely flowers ect. I don't think they get the recognition they deserve. The cafe has recently been refurbished, has a toilet. Dogs are welcome in the cafe. They sell snacks, cakes, drinks and lovely ice cream, they have a few toys for toddlers and the staff are friendly and work hard. The park has a car park, tennis courts, bandstand, conker trees, lovely play area with swings, slides ect and a sandpit for the kids, can get busy on sunny days, weekends & school holidays. Park is great for walking or jogging round and there are plenty of benches to sit on. The park sometimes has events on, car rallys, car boots, fun fayres, ect. The Lockpark bonfire/firework display is very popular and people come from far and wide and gets quite busy, can be difficult to park, so if local, suggest walking or public transport. It would be nice for the Tower to be opened up to the public....

Recently some unfortunate circumstances led to me and my husband having our daughter who is 15 (16 in May) took into long term foster care. So Locke park has been a life saver for more than the most obvious reason which is being able to have family time ongoing! So we can at least see it child once a week but it's also a reason to get out and about in the fresh air which with our background is all new to us all over again so Thanks to anyone of you guys that make the park not just accessible but also lovely to look at and I always think when I'm walking away about something else I'm sure I've never seen before which must be a massive task to accomplish say week after week or eve month after month!!! Si on behalf on my partner and I, Mr and Mrs Neal...

This is a truly beautiful little park to visit and within such close proximity to the town. It's a typical Victorian style park with many things to see and do. It's a great place to take the kids and not a place to fear for your safety. Barnsley always delivers when it comes to parks and recreation and truly excels when it to providing something special for the public, the town has so many beautiful villages and places to visit and it's a secret that they keep from the southerners who still believe that Barnsley is a place of flat caps and pigeons to which I can confirm that I never saw either. The people behind the recreation of Barnsley should be so proud that they deliver a wonderful end result for the public time after time.

A chilly unplanned walk around Locke Park. I dropped someone at the hospital for an appointment and was going to find somewhere to park up and read my book, I found myself not far from the park so decided to get a few steps in while I waited. Lovely spacious park with wide pathways. Pushchair and wheelchair friendly. Great children’s play area with cafe. Bandstand. Large areas of grass with mature trees 🌳 perfect for a picnic (when it’s warmer) or ball games. Dedicated area for ball games with goals and basketball hoops. Lots of history to look at on the way around and an information board near the cafe. Fairy garden with stunning art work. Free car park. Plenty of litter bins. Easy to spend an hour or a whole afternoon.
