In town last Saturday bar hopping and luckily went here early afternoon as the town centre was heaving (music festival). This pub is a 10 minute walk out of the centre but as such is a neighbourhood pub and was full of local families and a 'do' on upstairs. Great decor, outside tables, good sized bar/lounge with two quieter atmospheric rooms off and function room upstairs. Four great quality real ales that I'd never had before from a fully descriptive menu on the blackboard and served by knowledgeable and very friendly staff. Was given a free mini, mini Yorkshire pud with beef, gravy and stuffing in it (Yorkshire Tapas?) with my first drink - delicious! From the smell from the kitchens and that 'tapas' I would guess that many people are more than happy to eat there. Will definitely go back next time I'm...

The pub itself is very unique and has my kind of decor. We were upstairs, which is more spacious than downstairs, but downstairs is perfect if you're there for a drink or two. There are toilets upstairs and downstairs. Drinks were good - not too shy with alcohol, and very reasonable prices. The only downside for me is that there isn't a bar upstairs, so had to keep coming down stairs to get a drink. First world problems, I know. So, yes would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a different, friendly atmosphere when having a drink, rather than going to Brammahs or in town...
Read moreMadge decided we should visit Barnsley for the first time ever. We checked the CAMRA 2023 Good Beer Guide and found this bar, only a 15 minute walk from Barnsley Interchange. Once across the ring road we entered a lovely area where the bar is situated. Lovely two room interior, great decor and four real ales ( Madge ordered Madri lager). I had a pint of Nethergate Suffolk County, a lovely Brown Ale. On this Friday lunch they had beers from Lord's, Lincoln Green and Marble. Sat outside on one of four picnic benches. The road was not busy so very pleasant. Very friendly staff who gave me a lowdown on other places to visit for real ale. CAMRA discount for card...
