I went to the Golf club last night with the girls I used to work with for our annual Christmas bash. We haven't had a Christmas party for a couple of years what with Covid etc so we were really up for it.
The DJ was great, the company was amazing, but the service for dinner was very disappointing.
The tables were very close together to the point where we had to push our table further away from the table next to us so that two of our party could sit down. They were constantly disturbed by people from the next getting drinks because there was no space to get up and move away from the table.
The food tasted good but would have been better if it had been hot! We were on table 8 of 10 tables. For some reason the very young staff were clearing the plates from tables 1-5 ish before we had even had any food. Vegetables and gravy were put on the table a good 5 minutes before anything else appeared so by the time everyone had been served they were lukewarm and that's being generous. One of our party didn't have tomatoes with her salmon because they "had run out of tomatoes". This for meals pre ordered weeks ago. There was another table still waiting to be served when we half way through our meal, so their food must have been stone cold.
My final complaint was that, having waited so long to get our food, as soon as you put your cutlery down from your last mouthful the plate was whisked away with a "have you finished?" but no chance to reply.
We had a great time because we always do when we get together, but I would question whether we should return next Christmas. The standard has dropped year on year at Hazlemere Golf Club, so the management need to be aware of that. I appreciate times have been difficult, but if large parties are booked then large parties should be properly catered for and service should be appropriate. Food needs to be hot, served together and what was ordered.
Additional info: subsequent to posting this review the lady who had booked the evening for us was contacted by the Golf Club and asked if they could have my details so they could discuss my review. I was more than happy for them to contact me and gave her my phone number and email address to pass on. Having not heard anything from them a couple of months later I contact my friend and, apparently, they had told her, that although they felt I should have contacted them about my review before posting on Google, they weren't going to bother now. Enough said.
I will go to the Christmas Party again this year if I'm invited and if it is at the Golf club because I would like to see whether, despite not contacting me, they have at least taken on board...
Read moreWorst food - hands down that I have ever had at an event or anywhere actually. It was truly horrific. Definitely from the freezer section of a very cheap supermarket or wholesaler. What I think was soup was a chunky tomato thing - cold and lumpy in a paper cup. The hot finger food was cold, I think there were pigs in blankets included (the worst out of everything), they were a sort of white with what looked like soggy uncooked bacon around them, no-one out of our party of 20 touched them.. the cold finger food was inedible. The puddings were a weird selection of slices of cake, then some small that didn't seem to be connected to anything else on the plate and didn't need to be cut, but were bland and also shop bought (but not from a nice shop). We had to pay extra if we wanted a cup of tea or coffee at the end of the meal. The wine was really expensive and not great - probably £2 or £3 a bottle, but they were charging £20. We had to ask for plates, when I asked the waitress (who was obviously trying but looked like it was her and half of the rest of the staffs first night) she looked flustered and out of her depth, she started to tell me we didn't need plates, but when I said other tables had them and I'd rather not eat off of the tablecloth, she rolled her eyes and bought us all plates. There didn't seem to be anyone in charge checking if people were ok. For £40 a head, you would expect, hot canapes to be hot .. and homemade, cold canapes to be homemade. Soup to not be in a paper cup. A cup of tea or coffee included. I called and spoke to someone in the office the next day, she said someone would contact me about my awful experience, it's 3 days later and I haven't heard back, which is why I decided to leave my honest review. I understand there are covid restrictions, but the food standard and the price charged are unacceptable and I actually feel embarrassed for them that they feel it justified and cannot even be bothered to respond to...
Read moreMy old course (was a member in the 80s) was looking and playing pretty well on the 1st April, 2022.
Sure... the greens still felt a little wintery and a little bobbly but they weren't bad considering the dusting of snow the day before. Nice to not have to play off mats nor temporary greens.
The greenkeepers could do with letting people play after lunch though rather than mowing the grass at noon... that was a little poor. One explained they started late that day but I honestly think that golfers can reasonably expect to play on a course WITHOUT green keepers mowing during the afternoon after the start of April.
The bunkers have improved since I last visited a few years ago (they were awful then) and the general welcome in the pro shop and restaurant was top notch.
Nice to take my son back where I learned to play 35 odd years ago.... and for once... the old members at Hazlemere didn't hold us up (always a thing at this course... always was this way in the 80s and was the last time I played there... but not this year... what a lovely relief).
We'll be back...
