3 of us who aren't normal ramblers had a super walk up to the waterfall! A more or less easy walk, a few sections of steep- ish steps but nothing even we couldnt manage! Took us exactly an hour to get to the top, a little longer on the way down due to being more careful on the steps. Make sure you go all the way until the path ends (over 6 bridges in total) as twice we thought we had reached the waterfall but they were just 2 others on the way up! The fall itself is just stunning & it was definitely worth the walk. It isnt suitable for anyone unable to walk up steep steps or for buggies, or people that need a little aid as there are no hand rails - its a true woodland/country walk! Car park is quite small (go just past the 1st few parking spaces to find the actual car park) but we arrived at 9am on a friday to find only 1 other car there. We only met a handful of people on the route too so not busy...

Found this place whilst staying in the area. We drove to the allocated parking area and were lucky enough to get a space straight away (parking is fairly limited), it was fairly busy but it was a weekend and surprisingly sunny and warm for April. The walk to the falls is not too far and well maintained although if you visit with small children there are a couple of places to be extra vigilant. The walk itself meanders through woodland, criss-crossing the river over several small bridges with each one affording pleasant vistas. The waterfall is to be found at the end of the trail and was a welcome sight, there were quite a few people at the waterfall with many of them splashing around, enjoying the cooling water on a hot Spring day. If you're in the area, give it a try and if the weather's right you should find it a pleasant way to spend a...

Beautiful walk, with some amazing scenery and little waterfalls building up to the big waterfall. However I would not recommend this walk if you have a nervous or reactive dog as unfortunately there was a lot of inconsiderate dog walkers. Very narrow paths with no where to go, my on lead dog who’s very well behaved and neutral to other dogs and people was rushed on many occasions by off lead dogs and he was beginning to get frustrated and especially as it’s steep and high up so a accident waiting to happen so unfortunately it spoilt our walk and became stressful, one even rushed us and knocked my mother over. it does say keep dogs on a lead however most weren’t. On a positive note there was also some very respectful ones. It’s a shame a handful have to spoil it. I would visit again but wouldn’t...

Definitely worth the detour for anyone travelling north or south from northumbria. Visited the Waterfall on a warm day in July and anticipated there would be an issue finding a space to park our van close to the beginning of the trail so decided to start our walk about a 10 minutes just before the village. There is additional parking before the bridge into Bellingham after the Old Chapel in South point of the golf course on the B6320. (see screenshot) The bridges were being repaired and maintained by friendly rangers /volunteers but this did not hamper our trip through the woods on the trail to the Waterfall. Could get sketchy if you were to visit in the pouring rain as the trails become more dirt as you progress. Wear good shoes.

Beautiful woodland walk (not great for buggies/wheelchairs given steep climbs, uneven surfaces and occasional steps) - came on a weekend and it was quite busy. Car park was full and people filling the road up alongside the car park so we parked in the small (free) car park on the other side of the village (over the bridge - co-ords: (55.1468520, -2.2540996)) which is a 10 min walk away, conveniently passing the ancient Fountain Cottage Cafe (crackin ice creams and a chance to soak up this sleepy little village on the picnic benches after the walk). A really lovely trail over quaint wooden bridges and a well earned spectacular waterfall straight out the set of Avatar… (on a smaller scale).
