Brookvale Park is truly a hidden gem in the north of Birmingham, barely a mile from Spaghetti Junction — yet it’s heartbreakingly neglected, just like much of the surrounding area. Many other reviews mention the same issues: the whole ward is dominated by HMOs, and the council seems to have allowed both the park and the neighbourhood to decline significantly.
It’s hard not to wonder how different things might be if this park were just a few miles away in Sutton Coldfield. There’s so much untapped potential here. With its beautiful lake, the park could easily host a café or community activities that would bring people together. The walk around the lake is still gorgeous and peaceful, but the experience is often ruined by groups of people loitering or behaving suspiciously, which makes the area feel unsafe and insecure — a complaint echoed in many other visitors’ reviews.
Once upon a time, there was a thriving boating club here, with families enjoying picnics and people rowing on the lake. It’s such a shame that Birmingham City Council has allowed this lovely space — and the whole area — to deteriorate so badly. Brookvale Park deserves so...
Read moreI've been using this park for nearly 20 years but it was only since I've had kids that I have come to really appreciate it. There is quite a lot of wildlife for them to see and they love coming to feed the ducks.
While they love the play area they're getting a bit bored of it and I would like to see them give it a bit of a facelift and really add to the obstacles and things to do for slightly older kids. I have frequented Rookery Park on the other side of Erdington and they have a much more robust and adventurous play area for older children that I would like to see the council implement throughout the city.
However, there is still lots of fun to be had especially in the wild area across the road in which my daughters love to climb the trees and do some exploring.
The park has lots of areas for picnics in the summer and is generally well kept and has a pleasant atmosphere. Although I will say that you have to pick your picnic spot carefully as there is quite a bit of duck, swan and geese poo all...
Read moreStandard Erds ! Best place on the manor to grab a stretch and stroll. Great for kids, younguns, couples, seniors and pretty much anyone really. Perfect also for any brave lockdown hermits among us, who have somehow someway, finally found the energy to park and jog. Distance and duration not important at first, of course!

Jokes aside though....... Respect and appreciation Birmingham Your efforts during this last lockdown have been absolutely necessary, but no less admirable!!! We have protected our most vulnerable residents and in the spirit of Britain's real greatness we have done it with a smiling stiff upper lip!
Covid hasn't got a prayer when we care and share. We will always win.
Brilliant to see groups of humans enjoying the sunshine together today.
