Lovely place for the day, different types of walks, easy, medium, challenging. Booking parking is easy to do and you can freely move between car parks. Staff are always happy, welcoming and friendly from the parking booth to the cafes. A couple of niggles spoil BA like when you finally see a place to park and someone has set up a picnic spot at the side of their car, which is fine but there's space where you park overlooking the water for your picnic. Some families take up to three spots, one for their car and two spaces for their picnic spot. So if it's busy, there are a lot less parking spots. Cafe is ridiculously overpriced for cooked food that looked like it had been cooked hours before and kept warm. Definitely need to get some simple food on the menu, like some butties and some fries would be nice. Stepping stones are always great fun, loose ones could be secured and one way system would be great as some unsupervised children end up going the wrong way and try to get past ten people going the right way. Themed events are fun for the kids but as most stops are unsupervised, some parents take too long to take photos with their kids, take the photo and move on, you can see the line of kids waiting to sit on the different themed stations. Toilets like most public ones weren't clean at all, if understand it's tricky to keep public toilets clean when children are in and out so much again unsupervised. Beautiful place to visit with a few small niggles that could easily be sorted...
Read moreMy recent visit to Bolton Abbey was truly a delightful experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by friendly and polite staff at the entrance who provided us with helpful information, ensuring we made the most of our time there. The parking fee is £15, which gives access to the stunning grounds for the entire day, making it well worth the price.
The setting is nothing short of breathtaking. The scenic walks offer a variety of stunning views, with trails that wind through peaceful woods, along the serene riverbanks, and across open meadows. It’s the perfect place to escape and immerse yourself in nature.
The highlight for me was undoubtedly the derelict Bolton Abbey itself. The ruins are steeped in history and have a magical, almost dreamlike quality. As you walk around the grounds, you can’t help but feel transported back in time. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply looking for a peaceful day out, Bolton Abbey has something for everyone.
Overall, the combination of beautiful landscapes, well-maintained paths, and helpful staff made this a memorable trip. I would highly recommend it, and it’s a place I’ll certainly be...
Read moreI agree it's a beautiful Abbey, and wood land, there's even a little beach near Abbey. However the parking is ridiculous, £15 per car!! There's 3 car parks all charging the same, there's free parking on the side of the road, but you park there at your own risk!! but its always full, and you'd have a bit of a walk back to the Abbey!!. The food and drink at the cafe up at the pavilion near the woodland is over priced, not good value.... The gift shop up at the pavilion is overpriced as well, for a little stuffed bird they charge £10!! For a little marble egg they charge £5!! We were quite shocked by prices... Your better off bringing your own lunch and drinks if possible and have a picnic... Easter trail is a bit rubbish too, you pay £15 to park your car, they give you a map, you walk through woodland looking for the clues, for about a mile, and then at the end when you solve the clues the kids get NOTHING!!! NO LITTLE EGG, NO LITTLE BUNNY!!! Our daughter was very disappointed... I brought my own price for her from home......
