We went to bolton abbey mid afternoon bank holiday Monday. We didn't take a bbq (wished we had after smelling everyone else's). Even though it was very busy, there was still parking to be found with grassy areas next to the car for a kickabout and a picnic. The entrance fee was ten pounds for a car. There is a cafe there, which we didn't utilise this time. We have visited before and had tea and coffee from there. There are ice-cream shacks dotted round .. The raspberry ripple and vanilla are both delectable. We walked towards bolton abbey and skipped stones in the water. We didn't venture across to the abbey as it was a very leisurely afternoon. Beautiful views. Very busy but everyone appeared to be having fun and that's what matters! All In all, a lovely four hours spent here and the scenic drive there...

Visited on a Monday and parked at the main Bolton abbey car park. There are 3 others you can choose from. The tea room was open and got a meal deal for £10, this includes a sandwich, crisps and a drink. You can walk two ways in from the tea room. The stepping stones are missing some stones but there’s only signage at one end (should be at both) to let you know this. I had a bit of a struggle as I was already at the end and it included a bit of a jump to a neighbouring stone. There is a bridge you can use also. The abbey and along the river are all accessible for everyone. As you travel further down it does become more difficult to ascend and descend. The cafe at the bridge was overpriced, we got two sausage rolls and I believe they were £3.75 each. Here you will find toilets, gift shops and the...

Visited today. Arrived at 09.20 and carpark beginning to fill. School holidays this week and Halloween walk about in woods. Good footpaths all the way around. Few places to stop, sit and admire the lovely views. Autumnal colours in full swing. Beautiful golds and coppers through the trees and scattered leaves to the woodland floor. A map given on entry guides you to the appropriate colour coded paths for you to choose depending on your mobility or preference of choice. Some steep areas if you like a more robust walk. Cafe, shop and toilets at the entrance to the woods. It's best to book your ticket on line as it works out cheaper than just turning up on the day. Ample carparking spaces. Beautiful...

Brilliant fun and plenty to do nearby! Me and Kate did the Wellies Walk at Bolton Abbey while camping nearby and we absolutely loved it. The walk itself is great fun — lots of shallow spots for paddling, stepping stones to cross and wooden bridges, so you can’t help but get your feet wet. Perfect excuse to wear your wellies or water shoes! There’s loads of parking, plenty of nice coffee shops close by for a warm drink afterwards, and we even grabbed an ice cream from the van near the river. Lots of people were swimming too — it’s such a good spot to spend a few hours. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for something a bit different and don’t mind getting splashed!
