Park with riverside view.... 71 hectares (175 acres) of wildflower meadow on the banks of the Thames, Chertsey Meads is a wide open space popular with families and dog walkers alike. It has a modern children’s play area and two picnic areas with views across the river Thames. It is great for walks and family outings. Two free car parks provide ample parking. The meadows are particularly attractive from May to July when the wild flowers are in bloom. Chertsey Meads is an open area of remnant floodplain meadow on the banks of the River Thames. Over 400 species of plants have been recorded, including flowers, grasses and sedges. 108 species of bird have been recorded including lesser whitethroat, reed bunting and sedge and reed warbler. Some of the flowering plant species found in the grassland are unusual due to calcium carbonate that has been deposited onto the site when the Thames has flooded. Read moreWe are so lucky to have the Chertsey Meads on our doorstep. Sadly at the moment it is in a sorry state because of all the upheaval caused by the installation of the Esso pipeline. If you are lucky you might see some deer on your walk across the Meads. 28/7/23 Sadly our beautiful hay meadow is still in a mess in places and still fenced off due to the pipeworks. Access is still possible for walking. 17/ 3 /24 Still lots of mud and flood water areas. Dog swimming in rain water pool/lake. Newly planted trees and whips here and there. Newly pollarded and coppice trees too. Road edges in need of repair. 19 June 2024 Big change on Meads now. All the grass on right hand side has been cut and bailed for hay/haylege.
