So much more to this place when you stop and park. There is the memorial to the magna Carter and a few more celebrated. I didn't know there is a memorial to the late great JFKENNEDY. There is a new art instalation called the jurors, which consists of 12 bronze seats each with their own design and story. The paths of the memorial walk and the river walk have been modernised to an all weather surface. There is a very good tea room near the Kennedy memorial that serves descent snacks and beverages. There is another outlet at the children's play area end of the river walk serving more fast food with a large carpark. There is a nice river boat trip from Wraysbury to Runnymede and back which is very picturesque on a sunny day. Although it is taught that the magna carter was signed on this side of the river, it is much more likely to have been signed on the otherside near the old Mary priory and the Ankerwicke yew as this is pretty much all that was here at that time except some small farms. This side is much harder to get to with very limited parking but the 2500 year old yew tree is a testament to survival against all odds and...
Read moreNot sure the word pleasure is appropriate in the title. It's a lovely location on a bend of the Thames River. Car parks are a little pricey at this location. The car park ticket machine is a real ordeal (must do better) and will be stressful for those not used to technology but it's a good space for families. Very difficult to leave the car park in your car when the main road is very busy with your weekend selfish drivers. On the positive side they have a nice playground for kids, the toilets are clean and they have a cafe for teas and ice cream. There is a classic car meet here every month which really brings the whole place to life and gives it a festive feel however I'm sure someone from the council will ban it at some point which will be a real shame. You are not allowed to have too much fun in...
Read moreHad a lovely few hours with friends. My 3 year old godson loved watching the boats go along the river whilst we were having a picnic. We went to the splash park which he thoroughly enjoyed and to the play park which has the basic equipment but is clean and is enough to keep little ones entertained. Ice cream was good, quite expensive as ranges from £2.10 for small tub to £4.70 for a large cone. We bought bags of swan and duck food (£1 a bag at the ice cream hut by the splash park) and fed the geese and ducks. LOTS of them around and very close encounters with them so it was interesting, but we’re animal lovers so weren’t fussed! Parking is paid for after the visit. After 3 hours is classed as all day which is £7.50 so it’s not cheap. All in all a good...
