I love this place it's beautiful with interesting animals/insects and plant life. The lakes are lovely and I enjoy the Church Wharf area near the Papermill as it's nice and tucked away. In the summer you can see hawks, falcons and kestrels. I've even seen grass snakes and lizards which is a first for me in the UK. The foxes look super healthy and I've even seen them hunting rabbits one time. The way the paths wind you can feel a little bit lost but it plays into how adventurous the area can feel. As far as I know the area has a lot of history as well when it comes to the barges, oyster fishing and the church. It's maintained by volunteers and such, so they don't have to do it but they do. Some of the trees or bushes around here smell absolutely lovely like a perfume. If you say hello to someone they are likely to say hello back or have a chat with you about the weather. The miniature railway is a nice feature which I think operates on Sundays as I can occasionally hear the whistle. The lake has a special place in my heart, I've often gone there when feeling blue and it has made me feel good again.
But it is let down by fly-tipping, dog walkers not picking up their dog mess, dogs off lead which in one situation attacked me at night and I couldn't see it - I had surgery done on my leg for that. Off lead dogs don't bother me particularly but at night time when you can't see it? Put reflectors or lights on your dog please and thank you to those who do. If you come here in the summer you will have to tolerate a swarm of aphids (storm bugs) flying into your face but they're harmless, just be prepared for that.
It isn't safe at night anymore because there are heroin users smoking by the Church. If I (a 6'2" middle-aged man) doesn't feel safe, imagine being a woman. So I don't go outside at night anymore around here. It wouldn't bother me if they kept to themselves but when you walk near them they always have to say something or they will beg for money or tobacco. Basically it's ruined by people and this is why we can't have nice things. This issue isn't exclusive to the park though, it's mainly an issue with this town in general but it is highlighted at the park because of how nice the area is. I mean people will fly-tip around here in your back garden if they can get away with it. But I will say it's like 99% good and 1% bad. You might not even notice any of this unless you frequent the area and are actively looking for issues.
If you like Pokémon Go, it's amazing for that lol There's a chicken wing shop near the front lake that is top tier. Even if you're not religious the church people are still nice...
Read moreTODAY I stumbled on a very very local country park only 4 miles from my temporary apartment in kemsley Sittingbourne, A open park with a small gage train track that looks unused, yet yes a real life mini loco still runs as i was pleasantly awed to see per chance. Tugging 4 carriages and on this particular day was linked up and running backwards, (must be a reason right) Choo, chooing i ran with interest to view this marvel. Family waved as they passed at approx 10mph The park is loaded with play things for the younger kiddos, and teens another part, minutes after entering the main gate A variety of colour coded paths to choose depending on how long you decided to walk. The creek runs along one side of the CP though is was sadly pretty sparing of water today, you could appreciate the seclusion and peace it offered, looking across the expanse. Dottedbsearing benches and carved logs in the shape of locomotives, great to inspire and distract young and old minds. I LOVED the added value of The Holy Trinity Medieval church literally encompassing the gate area. Surprisingly well kept grounds and graves, 3 gardeners were actively about their work as i arrived. Allinall a wonderful sense of history coupled with the unknown of the country park features and walk. Look to spend 3 hrs max on the longest walk trail
Bring your picnic and blanket, loads if water on hot days as you dont have much cover, A hat and umbrella is a must for contingencies, otherwise go forth and multiply people With my...

The main entrance is by the church and has the graveyard to one side of the park, several locations around the park allow access for free parking, wheelchair friendly, toilets by the rangers Portacabin, facing the kids play area. The maintenance of the park is mainly by volunteers who do a great job with the park ranger, have visited on many occasions well worth a visit. As an update for those who use a wheelchair the entrance by the church has restricted access with wood posts and cycle barrier, the main metal gate is locked.
