There is a small lake that sits in a wider basin with plenty of ducks etc. It was originally a quarry that later became a water supply reservoir for the local area until the water became contaminated and the dam was found to be unsafe. The water level is now much lower but you can still see the old water level marks carved into the stone blocks going up the bank near the bridge.
Its free to enter (unlike some country parks). The car park is currently closed but there is parking along Great Horton Road - although my satnav tried to take me round the back, off Pasture Lane. It had been raining before I visited so most of the paths were quite muddy and I didnt have time (or appropriate footwear) to see most of it. There are a few negative comments about antisocial behaviour on other posts, it seemed ok when I was there, things might not be the same in...
Read moreI was initially reluctant to visit here due to the bad reviews, however I went the other day and it was great. There's a path going round the water, then another through the trees. The path around the water was muddy in places, however I managed fine in trainers! In poorer weather though it may be wise to wear more suitable footwear. It's not a massive place, but you can get a decent mile or two walking here. Plenty of birds, ducks etc too. The only downside is that the carpark is closed so it's pedestrian access only, though there is on street parking near the main entrance. Additionally if driving there using Google maps the main entrance is on Great Horton Road as it directed us to the opposite side of the park where there...

However, there are a multitude of paths you can take; down by the pond where you can see lots birds swimming), through the wooded areas, and one part that looked more like an open field area.
Well kept, and seemingly quite popular as there were a fair few people about, it's a good place to have a wander and see some wildlife. Your walk will be accompanied by bird song, and I even saw a fox on one of the hillsides.
There isn't dedicated parking, but you can park easily on the street very close by (1 minute...
