Just got back from visiting Brean Down with the National Trust and honestly I am blown away by the place. From the moment you step out onto the hilltop you are greeted with the most incredible views that make you stop and just stare for a while. The coastline stretches endlessly in both directions and the way the sunlight hits the water in the afternoon is just magical. You can see the waves crashing against the rocks and it’s so calming, it feels like the world slows down for a bit.
Walking along the trails was such a treat. Everything feels so natural and untouched, and the air is unbelievably fresh. There are all these little wildflowers and grasses swaying in the breeze that make the walk feel almost like a painting. I kept stopping to take photos but honestly no picture can really do it justice. The old fort up there adds a sense of history that makes the scenery even more interesting. I found myself imagining what life must have been like back then while enjoying the view.
I also have to mention how peaceful it feels up there. Even on a day when there were a few other visitors, you never feel crowded. It’s the kind of place where you can just wander and let your mind wander too. I spent a good couple of hours just sitting on the grass looking out at the sea and honestly it felt like therapy.
If you love nature, history, or just need a proper escape from the daily grind, Brean Down is perfect. The scenery is genuinely breathtaking, every angle is a postcard, and the whole vibe of the place is just calming and inspiring at the same time. I can’t recommend it enough, I will definitely be...
Read moreThis cafe is in a prime spot, just off the beach with seating inside and out, but sadly we won't be returning. The staff were bumbling, one older lady who seemed to be in charge, barked orders at other staff and was rude and abrupt to customers. The sandwiches were expensive but not brilliant, the half filled cups of dishwater tea to take out, we're so bad that we had to ask for more tea bags. The hot chocolate, made in a china cup by mistake, was simply tipped into a takeaway cup which was then less than half full. It might have been an 'off day' for staff, but as a shop owner I feel there is absolutely no room for 'off days'. Fortunately, after walking to the top of the cliff and back, we found a great Tea Room just behind the National Trust shop, where we bought more tea, properly made, where dogs are welcome inside, and the staff are warm and welcoming, and professional. As a member of the National Trust, I feel that good service, polite and professional members of staff, and quality products, should be consistent throughout. We will definitely be using the other option when we...
Read moreThought I had written a review of the cafe here in the past but can’t find it now. Maybe I imagined it. Anyway, was expecting a battle at the cafe again today as I always have in the past when turning up on a bike. The staff have been so miserable there previously and just rude. I used to ignore them but it made me begrudge giving them money. Went there today for the first time in a couple of years and there are new staff (as far as I’m aware anyway) who were just lovely. So friendly and helpful. Hooray! Only two things that weren’t so great. Any coffee made with milk was pretty cold. I had a second made with water which was suitably hot. Second thing was ten at my lemon drizzle cake was quite hard. But my sausage bap was nice. Anyway, it was a pleasant experience in general and a world apart from previous downright unpleasant staff. It’s a fabulous spot with some great walking to the end of the down so the cafe deserves to have people there who do the...
