If you're looking for a hidden gem for a leisurely walk, Snuff Mills is the perfect escape. Nestled in the heart of Bristol, this picturesque spot offers a tranquil retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. I recently spent a delightful afternoon exploring the trails, and it was nothing short of magical.
The walk itself is wonderfully serene, winding through lush greenery and alongside the gently flowing River Frome. The sound of the water cascading over rocks is both soothing and invigorating, creating a natural soundtrack that enhances the peaceful atmosphere. As you stroll, you'll encounter charming wooden bridges, ancient stone structures, and an array of wildlife that adds to the enchanting ambiance.
One of the highlights of the walk is the breathtaking beauty of the river. The way the sunlight dances on the water’s surface, creating shimmering patterns, is a sight to behold. It's the kind of scene that makes you want to stop and just soak in the moment. The verdant surroundings, coupled with the melodic babble of the river, make for an experience that's both visually and audibly delightful.
However, a word of advice for fellow walkers: if you're prone to hay fever, pack some antihistamines. The abundant flora that makes Snuff Mills so beautiful can also be a bit of a sneeze-inducing menace. I learned this the hard way and spent a good portion of my walk looking like a watery-eyed detective following a particularly fragrant lead. It’s worth the sniffles, though, as the natural beauty is simply unparalleled.
In summary, Snuff Mills is a must-visit for anyone who loves nature and scenic walks. Its blend of historical charm, stunning river views, and peaceful trails make it a perfect spot for a leisurely day out. Just remember to come prepared for the hay fever – trust me, your nose...

THIS IS THE SECOND DOG LOST IN THE WEIR THAT I AM AWARE OF. One of the best walks in Bristol - water, woods & a lovely small garden stuffed with flowers all maintained by volunteers. Great for walking the dogs with plenty of dog waste bins so no excuse not to clean up. Free car park & toilets at the bottom of Blackberry Hill but this gets full quickly especially at the weekend. Car parking charges are to be intoduced 2022. Man in cafe needs to cheer up. If you are looking for a peaceful walk go early in the day or late evening. Accessible for wheelchairs though not sure about the width of Halfpenny Bridge being wide enough. My dogs love it here as do I & the walk will take you (quite a steep climb) up to Vassals Park. Lots of wild life including otters (2 seen by Halfpenny Bridge this month Jan 2019) & I often see kingfishers here. Go and have a look you won't regret it. 💥Remember to wash mud off dogs as a prevention against Alabama Rot. Even though no cases reported locally better...
