A hidden gem just minutes from Bristol City centre!

There are some stunning walks here all year round, depending on the time of year it can be a bit wet, muddy and slippery so I’d recommend some sturdy footwear!

It can get a bit noisy at times because of the M32 which runs alongside the estate but you soon get used to it (I grew up nearby) and it’s still very enjoyable and one of the nicest estates in Bristol in my opinion.

It's an easy five minute downhill walk from Snuff Mills too which is an added bonus (and if you’ve got any energy left!)

The grounds of the estate are quite vast with 2 different walks signposted.

There is a fishing lake which you can also walk around but there are often a number of keen fishermen who will disapprove of you wandering around the lake!

Everything is well kept and there are plenty of paths to follow but not many places to stop and take a rest (benches etc)

The views from the monument of the top of the estate are fabulous and well worth the walk up. Unfortunately due to the nature of the estate is isn’t suitable for wheelchair users of people with mobility issues.

After a long walk I would recommend charging your batteries back up in the only local pub nearby which is the Masons Arms, it is Children and dog friendly and also provides some fantastic pub grub and a great selection of hot and...

Purdown used to be very little used, and was grazed by horses, sheep and cattle..Kids with stolen mopeds would occasionally zoom about the place , and the woods were extremely overgrown, and used for glue sniffing so felt a bit 'edgy' ..Our dogs LOVED Purdown...none of the new houses were built, and we used to play in the Lake foundations, where there were massive ammonites, far too large to carry home without the aid of a JCB. The dogs died eventually, and Purdown became a place we rarely visited. However, in recent times, we re visited, and the work done on the woods, the orchard and new planting has been so good The beautiful stone wall and 'Park' gates and tree protectors are lovely ...But oh my word.....so crowded! Compared to the 'old' days ...the wear on the turf shows myriad people walk there...and a tarmac path across the meadow made my heart sink..thank GOODNESS there isn't ''shelter'' or heaven forbid, a cafe and bogs...that would be terrible...making the place even more populated. Goodness knows what has caused the population explosion...

Puredown at Stoke Park is hands down one of Bristol’s hidden gems. Whether you’re out for a morning run, walking the dog, or just catching up with friends, it’s the kind of place that makes you instantly feel like you’ve escaped the city, without actually leaving it.

The open space is beautiful all year round, with sweeping views, rolling fields, and that iconic yellow Dower House watching over everything. There are plenty of well-trodden paths for runners, wide open areas perfect for dogs to roam freely, and peaceful spots to pause, take in the views, or have a chat.

It’s the sort of place that fits any pace, whether you’re out for a full on workout or a slow, soul soothing stroll. And because it’s not overly manicured, it keeps a really natural, wild charm that makes every visit feel refreshing.

Easy to access, and never too crowded, Puredown is one of those special local spaces that just makes life in...

A varied parkland on the edge of Bristol with extensive views over East Bristol. Woodland and open parkland, orchards, sculpture, ancient monuments and modern archeology, Stoke Park has it all. Accessible paths have been addd recently which have opened the space to everyone but there are still wilder, inaccessible areas for those who are able to explore. The only drawback is the noise of the M32 which cuts across part of the parkland.

This is my new go to place for great cycle ride! Love it up here with the great views. You can't really escape the sound of the M32 in the distance but it's still brilliant. Bit disappointed to see some religious propaganda heat sealed onto the cycle track. As an Atheist I resent someone foisting their views on people. I've reported to have it removed by the Council website or does anyone have any ideas on it's removal????
