Situated in a kind of residential area, there is so much to see within that estate; open fields with lush grass for long walks, woodland areas for rising walks, big fallen trees if you enjoy exploring history of trees, water fall making gushing noise, old stone work showing hard labour of the past, rising old stone steps, snuff mills boiler stating its history, small cafe on both ends for a break with friends, play area for children, tennis filed, elders walking with their dogs, families having picnics and mini celebratory parties, long walks on the river bank etc. The reason for 4 stars; parking charges are being brought in by the local authority which will have serious impact on visitors. Elderly folks who take their dogs for walks on regular basis, may be twice a day, and to meet up with their friends would have to dig into their pensions; people who enjoy to exercise such as running/ jogging/cycling, friends socialising, families taking their kids to the play area, all be effected by these parking charges. After having such a hard time with Covid 19 people need breathing space, exercise, socialisation etc. Rather than expanding the car park properly, cutting the grass on regular basis, keeping an eye on dog littering, etc., so people could have a healthy life style and minimise visits to hospitals - the choice of the local authority has...
Read moreI had the absolute pleasure of visiting here with my 3 Grandkids and their Mums. We spent a fantastic 6 hours or so here. As I'm unable to walk unaided and then, only a short distance. I was merely able to get to a place near (ish) the amazing playground and cafe. The coffee was lovely. The toilets were nearby and clean although one cubicle door didn't lock. Within the 1st hour I had seen a woolly caterpillar, shield bugs, unusual bees, young squirrels and sweet chestnuts (covered in gall wasp larvae, amongst many other beautiful natural beauties. While I sat and relaxed, the kids were exploring and went with their mums to the river. On the way back up they climbed trees, found an unused birds nest and apparently, many different fairy lands 🥰 and spent 90% of the time in nature's playground and the rest of the time having a lush picnic. , and in the playground, which if like me you haven't been for a few years. Wow it's got loads of play things for different ages. There's many places to find where you can have a lovely picnic The only negative issue I have is that the carpark charges have to be paid on an app. There's no other option (other than trying to park on the road outside people's houses. I would say that we had a truly magical day out - Thanks so much to; Zara, Charlie, Logan, Bo and baby Anya. Oh, of course not forgetting my...
Read moreOldbury Park estate... Even with it's iconic pirate ship awol somewhere and waterless pumps, this is still a great place to take your children. I like to take my little girl here on the promise of swings and ice creams and then slowly morph the outing into a delightful river walk. Last time we were there I was smart and brought a change of clothes for the little one as I knew she would want to paddle and then navigate her way upstream like a two legged giant salmon. And the further she got upstream the more salmon like she became. Her skin turning silver blue, eyes moving to the sides of her head... A beautiful dorsal fin sprouting from her back. I did at one point start to wonder if it was all a dream. The dappled sunshine being almost too beautiful to take in. But a massive ice cream bear assured me that I wasn't and gave me a lick of it's 99... Just then I remembered that bears eat salmon, so I pulled out the flake, gave it a quick shapen, Jabbed it in its filthy ice cream paw, scooped you up, my beautiful salmon baby and made for the hills like a horse...
