At Last, the long-awaited Canal Side Heritage Centre. Was it worth the wait……. Yes, although not 100% finished it has got to be seen. Ok so they haven’t got the signs up yet, so try any door to get in and the garden isn’t finished, but I tell you what. They do one heck of a grand cream tea. I wandered up the stairs of the balcony and looked at the stunning view across the weir and towards Barton and the power station at Ratcliffe on Soar, very nice, I took a couple of pictures. Then to the café for my memorable cream tea served by two lovely young ladies. I sat and pondered a while. Then had a chat to the manager and asked if it was ok to take a few photos for this review, she smiled and said “Of course” Upstairs next, after paying my £2.50 entry for the museum, brilliant just what I like, a timeline, what better way to tell the story of the cottage and the characters with some splendid photos old and new. So what’s next, oh here we go another door, hello it’s a gallery with some fantastic photos of the renovation and more of the story. Back downstairs for some more photos and a chat. Conclusively I shall be returning to see the finished garden and a bite to eat. Only one regret, I didn’t take a photograph of the cream tea for you to have a look, oh well just go and try one for...

Lovely venue to call in for a hot drink and food after a walk along the canal. Very traditional cafe area on the ground floor. My personal favourite is the fruit cake however the carrot cake does take some bearing. Selection of teas and coffees plus other hot food. If its a dry day you can sit in the garden at the back which is great if you have children with you as there is a little wooden boat on the grass which they can play in. Upstairs are two meeting rooms which can be booked out. If there are a few families meeting for a celebration this would be a great idea to book one of the rooms I'm advance so that you are all able to sit together. There is a lift for pushchair and wheelchair to access the first floor. Toilets are on the ground floor and are regularly checked. There is no parking on site and at weekends and school holidays parking on the road can be limited also. Just to warn you that there is no barrier between the road and the canal, just the grass verge so please be very careful with...

This is a marvellous place to come and visit, there's parking along the canalside available with just a small walk to the Heritage Centre... I only had a coffee as my time was limited but there's plenty available to eat and drink with inside and outside seating available... There's much on view to read about the history of the area and lot's to view outside along the canal and a further short walk to the wonderful Beeston Marina and another short walk to the Attenborough Nature Reserve... like I Said there's plenty to see and do... An absolutely fantastic way to spend a few hours of your day... Come along, you will most certainly enjoy your...

The Heritage Centre itself is lovely. Visited the cafe that was a little overwhelmed, the staff who I hope were new staff were struggling to cope on a busy Sunday Lunchtime, this was not helped by many of the customers not understanding the order pagers, and that what was on their receipts was not necessarily what they had ordered, as these were being handled written separately. The gardens are lovely and food was good. Some confusion over hot drinks and a rather rude member of staff, but I'll allow for the fact it wa a hot busy day.
