So very dissapointed this was a second visit in a week for me.
1st visit Tues 12th Dec table booked for 12pm. We didn't get our mains till 1.20 we hadn't pre ordered so I was hopeful my second visit would be better as we had pre ordered our meals- how wrong I was! We arrived Tues 19th Dec our table was booked for 4.30 the table wasn't ready, not a problem there was plenty of room downstairs, it was pretty quiet.
Our starters didn't arrive until 5.25 then the mains started arriving 6.45pm ! we had to chase the deserts at 7.20 by this time a few people had left ! When we asked why the delay, the female who had earlier been behind the bar was very rude and condescending. Her reply: -We should have informed them if we were in a rush and they may have been able to ask the chef to prioritise our order ??? We need to understand that we were not the only people there that night and that there were people downstairs that ordered food too ! That all food is cooked fresh to order and so takes time ! 3 hours was not an unacceptable length of time !
At this point I would like to point out that the Turkey dinner was microwaved veg and frozen potato's the turkey, pigs in blankets and stuffing were certainly not cooked fresh to order !
There was 27 of us, and over £600 spent. The food was of a very poor standard the staff rude and obnoxious.
The only good thing about the experience was the young male waiting staff, they were pleasant courteous and apologetic to us (something that was lacking from the two females ) and these young men were an absolute credit to you ! Don't take bookings for groups if you can't...
Read moreThe Victoria is a fantastically unique pub hidden away in Beeston, Nottingham. As you walk in the front you are presented with a left and right door. Going through to your right takes you into the dog-friendly side of the pub where you can order drinks but not hot food. Going through to your right brings you to the main dining rooms with access to the beer garden and further seating upstairs. The rooms are decorated mainly with old drinking paraphernalia, including an impressive Nebuchadnezzar of Piper Heidsieck champagne (15 L!) and a Guinness toucan.
The food here is incredible and is where I take pretty much all of my guests when they visit and they often ask to come back here on their return! The menu varies throughout they year and ranges from traditional British pub food (an excellent bangers and mash with a hearty portion size is almost always available) to Mediterranean, Asian, Caribbean and South American foods. I've never had a bad meal here and I'd argue the pricing is cheap given the quality of the food served. As it can get busy I would recommend booking a table ahead of your visit, especially if coming in a group. The layout of the rooms means that you can have larger groups in one area.
In addition to the great food is the range of drinks available, again rotating around through the year and offering a diverse selection of ales, ciders and wines.
The servers have always been pleasant and more than...
Read moreWe have been here a fair few times and the beer selection is always top notch, it also is very well kept. The atmosphere is cosy and comfortable - precisely what you want from a traditional pub. The food selection is vast, and always to a high standard. Although we did encounter an issue that I think is worth a mention. My friend is allergic to several fresh herbs so we sent him to order our food. He specifically mentioned to the staff that he cannot have fresh coriander or parsley on his dinner to which he was informed that it was just a garnish, so it wouldn't be added to his. You can probably guess where this is headed. His food had quite clearly been garnished with said herbs, and a vague attempt at removing them had been made, so there were still some present. Luckily his allergy isnt life threatening, but he did suffer discomfort later on. We have had this issue here in the past as well, but we had hoped at the time that it was a one off error. It's a shame that the kitchen staff do not take allergies as seriously as they should. Apart from this it was a pretty...
