I photographed a wedding in The Caves 13/01/2024, this was my first time at the venue and I thought it was incredible, the staff provided myself and the other photographer with a “safe” area for us to store and have all day access to our equipment, Ian was incredibly helpful throughout the day in advising us of great areas for photos and for constantly informing us of any time changes during the day. The actual venue is beautiful, it has candles everywhere and complimentary lighting all around to add to the ambience, it also had rope lighting from the ceiling over the main area where the wedding ceremony took place which looks stunning in the photos. Being right in the heart of the city of Edinburgh it is just a thirty second walk from the famous Royal Mile which was perfect for taking our couple out in the evening to get some shots. We had our meal in the upstairs bar and the food was fantastic, we didn’t wait long to be served and the staff were always attentive and made sure we were looked after. All in all a stunning venue in a great location run by a fab team.

The Caves is a very unusual and unique concert venue buried in the bowels of auld reekie. Interior lighting is excellent. Seating was good tonight. Seen a couple of concerts here now but tonight we witnessed an incredible performance from Irish Rock Blues guitarist and singer Dom Martin. This guy is no tribute act or impersonator. He brings introspective dark songs of his own composition which reach into the very core of your emotional being. Then after the minutes of a short break turns into the embodiment of the spirit of Rory Gallagher. Never have i heard Rory's early material played better. A wonderful nostalgic experience. 16/10/23 Another great night at the caves to see fantastic American Blues Rock Band Blood Brothers. 🎸😄

Spooky spooky caves but they were so so so cozy!!! There was a friendly ghost who I spoke to and we became friends. There are no windows in a cave because it’s underground which is my favourite new fact!!! I was told that it was a cave but I wasn’t expecting how cave-y this place was going to be! It was so exciting to be down in the deep deep ground. The food is so so so yummy I might take haggis back to Belarus

We booked the caves for our wedding venue last year and would not recommend. Everything costs extra and the communication of the staff was poor and they were really patronising when ever you said something wasn’t what you expected.

We had a package with two menu options but after we’d booked they said the second option had to be vegan and gluten free or we had to pay £500 to add another option for people with dietary requirements.

They also tried to charge us to come in and taste they food and it was over £100 for 2 people (although it was impossible to even get a date booked to do this).

We also asked if they could take a drink order during the meal as we wanted to buy everyone a drink for a toast but they asked us to pay for additional waiters!!

In the end to make the day as we wanted it and to cover all of the above we would have been cheaper with the champagne package at the balmoral.

Finally we wanted to hire tables and chairs from their recommended supplier and every time we asked they gave us a different number of max guests. I think we asked 4 times and got 4 different answers. In the end the supplier had to correct them so we had absolutely no confidence in their competence.

The staff kept telling me “how stressful it was being a bride” and that was the final straw. I couldn’t get married there and we paid 50% of the cost of the wedding to cancel around 9 months before our wedding.

We booked the ghillie dhu instead and I cannot recommend them enough. Everything was no bother. Menu tasting was of course free and for 4! They bent over backwards for those with dietary restrictions at no extra cost. The team there are amazing and I loved my big day.

Unfortunately we couldn’t get the same date when we booked and I lost a few of our suppliers but it was still the right decision for us as you only get married once.

It’s taken me months to write this because of how upset I’ve been but I wish someone had...

I could write for days about how perfect our wedding at The Caves was, but I will try to keep this brief. From start to finish, Emma and the entire Caves team went above and beyond to make sure our entire year long experience with them was amazing, from the initial visit through thousands of emails to the actual day. As a bride from Chicago planning a long-distance wedding in Edinburgh, it could have been daunting and hard- but Emma made it so easy and fun. Her emails were ALWAYS kind, prompt, and helpful. No question was too big or too small, and she always made me feel supported and confident in our choice and throughout the planning process. And on the actual day, everything was PERFECT! This venue is out of this world and so many of our guests have told us we had the Best Wedding Ever (seriously). It is so unique, gorgeous, and memorable, and the day ran like clockwork and a dream. Everyone at the Caves was so professional, kind, and helpful. I honestly would not change a single thing about the day, and I believe having our wedding here was one of the best decisions we ever made. If you are looking for a gorgeous, unique, and truly memorable wedding venue with a kind, professional team that goes above and beyond, look no...
