Bit disappointed really. Lots of lovely planes in the hanger but you only got a back end view of most of them except the WW2 Typhoon, I was expecting to at least get a walk down the centre of the hanger. I appreciate they are in a 'working hanger' but there wasn't much work happening and segregation could easily be achieved. Most people would go there for photos of iconic aircraft from the front and distinctive shapes/angles etc.
The tour takes about 1.5 hours but ours took 2 hours because our guide seemed to waffle on about useless information, people were literally starting to flag and wilt standing for that long. He took that long the second group caught up with us and had to mill about whilst he told us yet another long winded story. He couldn't tell us about the aircraft markings as he wasn't interested in that, sorry feller but lots of people are interested in what the markings on the Lancaster indicated or when and why certain Spitfire/Hurricane paint jobs were used. The tour more was more about warfare and WW2 so we were told, but it was hardly mentioned and definitely not what sorties these aircraft may have been involved in. He did come out with some good facts but to be honest these I've forgotten those amidst the loads of trivia that was included
The day before the Lancaster was out and people were able to go out for photos etc. I was outside the fence. But on my visit there was nothing outside, surely one plane per day, weather dependent, can go outside?
Don't take a bag because you cannot take it in with and ridiculously there is nowhere to leave it.
Great to see these amazing planes. But honestly, it could...

Read moreExcellent from seeing them in the air at shows and the first they were in to standing next to them being serviced in their hangar we had a tour guide who new a lot about all the aircraft of the Battle of Britain Memorial flight One of the spitfires actually flew through the whole of WW11 including the Battle of Britain One is also thought to have broken the speed of sound barrier because the pilot was board and took his spitfire as high as it would go but as it started to dive back down the pilot blanked out and came down to about 3 or 400 yards before coming around when he was ordered into the COs office and was tore off a stripp or 2 but he new nothing about himself breaking the song barrier until he was called straight back in and congratulated for breaking the barrier in a petrol driven prop engine and the record still stands today the guides tell you more of that type of thing but I don't want to spoil it for you you will have to go yourselves to hear the rest and there's a lot of it. I would just like to congratulate all the tour guides for their excellent knowledge and the way they passed it all on two us especially as they are all volunteers and do it for the fun and enjoyment they get out of it. " Thank you very very...
