I've booked a party package there for a group of 3years old children. All the children loved the trains as always, and this is more about the caffe. Please believe me, working in hospitality for many yars this is NOT how you organise a party package which by the way cost £12.50 per child. The food included 2 small slices of pizza, some very thin fries , bunch of popcorn, cucumber and carrot sticks, which I knew about and was ok with it, however the fries were super thin I had to pay extra for few bits of fruit. The floor in the private room has not been moped, not too mention even brushed before our arrival. We have paid for train tickets in advance and to the train operation, please reserve seats for party groups! We've missed one train because of people who bought tickets and queued on the platform, second train we had to sit in second class instead of first again because there was not enough spaces for us. Then after our trip we came back to the room , food arrived and although I found a jug of squash I had no cups and thirsty children. Had to go to the already busy caffe and ask for cups. Then had to make another trip to collect a cake from the fridge and had to ask for plates and cutlery. I know they were 3 years old but they know how to use cutlery! On top of that had to make another trip as only exactly 9 plates were given to me and I had no plates or cutlery for parents. Things like plates , cutlery, napkins! cups could and should have been provided in the room for our use without me making frequent trips to the caffe. Also a rubbish bin in the corner would have been a nice touch, instead of benches and chairs piling up. Noone came to the room to take any orders from us and that is what you state in your package description. You have not done all you could to make our day and experience a great one. In fact everyone else was more...

Loved the trains. However I am disabled and needed an individual seat , not the sorry in bench type. I could not get an individual seat on the first 2 trains so waited over half an hour to get seat on 3rd train 45mins after our arrival to buy tickets. You used to be able to pay extra to get that type if seat and I would rather do that and be sure to get one. However you are unable to do so at present. Grandchildren played in the half way point play park, it was good. Then queued to return and hardly anyone got off. A few stragglers got off late and my Daughter grabbed the bench. I was convinced I would have to stay behind to wait again for next train. However my Daughter got me over the bench and helped me squat in the seat. It was not easy for me. Then after enjoying the return trip on the train, especially the dark tunnel ( whoo whoo ) I then had to get off the seat. This was difficult and my Daughter had to help lift me up. No one noticed offered a hand. As a larger lady it was a feat for her. Thankfully it was managed. Unfortunately I am embarrassed to try this again and hope they offer the extra price individual...

Having not been for quite a few years I decided to take one of my grandchildren, the place is well signposted and there's quite a lot of free parking spaces. We went through to the station after getting tickets at the ticket office, there we were greeted by a lovely and helpful lady. Then we went out onto the platform which is delightful, seeing the lovely engines being maintained whilst waiting for our train. There's 2 options first class which is a seat undercover in a little carriage and standard class. We got off at Monks Brook Station which has a wonderful children's play area through a gate on the right, my granddaughter enjoyed it and to the left there's a really nice picnic area with benches and some lakes to walk around. We then got back on the little train the journey back takes you through a tunnel which was loved by the children on the train. We then got off and brought a little something from the gift shop there's also the option to buy food in the café. We really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be...

Visited here today with children and grandchildren. Slightly disappointed that there was no steam running today but enjoyed a pleasant trip on the diesel instead. Not surprised by the lack of steam as visitor numbers were low. Parking - free parking is available and there is plenty of space, there is a 4 hour limit on free parking at the weekends but permits available at the shop. Train ride is a decent length and not expensive. Wait time was never more than 15 minutes. We travelled to the picnic area, disembarked, had our picnic in the park, and returned on the train. There is a walk by the lakes from the picnic area which looked lovely but we did not do as it was very warm with the children. Highlight! The steam locomotive “David Curwin” was here today, although not in steam. We used to ride on this engine when it was in Dobwalls, near Liskeard, Cornwall when our children were young. Really good to see it again here today although I understand that it is up for sale. It is the Blue locomotive in the photos.

This is a lovely little steam railway. I have been to many miniature railway and this is a particularly nice one. It has a variety of tickets (single, return, first and standard class, and other options). This makes it very versatile. You could stay there most of the day, have a picnic, a walk and many rides or you could simply come for a few hours and a couple of rides. The station well organised, as you can see where the trains are at all times (making your wait easier to manage if you have younger children). The tv showing episodes of Thomas is also a bonus. The cakes at the cafe are legendary and the slices are enormous. I only gave this place 4 starts because the food is not great (except for the aforementioned cakes). Better to bring a picnic and use one of the many picnic benches provided.
