I don't usually leave 1 star reviews but the management at this hotel deserves it.
I'm here with a small crew of my coworkers for a job at the airport. We spent 15 days at this hotel and have decided to switch hotels. These are the main disappointments we experienced.
During the 15 days we had 2 days where hot water was not available for our rooms. The first time it was due to a secondary circuit breaker which they had trouble finding. Upon writing this on my last day the cause for the second hot water failure is still unknown and has been out for at least 3 hours. They stated a repairman is on the way but haven't mentioned if they checked the breaker which caused the first failure. So with an hour until checkout we will have to either have a freezing cold shower or wait until check in at the next hotel.
The restaurant has been the source of much of the disappointment we experienced and was unfortunately the only restaurant near the hotel. During our stay, the list of items on the menu which were not available for order had grown more and more without replacing many of the items which weren't available on the first few days after we got here. Here is the current list on our last day.
Other items such as pizza, and haddock and many others were unavailable for several days before being replenished however lasagna and sticky toffee pudding remained unavailable for the entire 15 days. Many other guests seemed disappointed with the lack of available menu items throughout our stay.
Restaurant service was at times slow or forgetful, had gotten our orders wrong or mixed up who had to pay for what. To be fair this is not uncommon over a 2 week stay for any hotel. As a crew of workers from 2 different companies, all our bills need to be split between each of us. This is something the restaurant payment infrastructure or staff didn't seem accustomed to but all was sorted out in the end.
The rooms themselves are nice and clean. The beds are very comfortable, the desk is very large so has plenty of space for working. The bathrooms are nice with a clean, semi-modern design with the option to shower or take a bath (provided it's a day when you have hot water).
The cleaning staff are incredibly kind and pleasant. They also do a great job on the rooms!
As we are an extended stay, we benefit greatly from onsite laundry service which this hotel does not provide. The free wifi is good enough for basic internet uses but if you wanted to stream anything you'd have to pay the 5 pounds per day to upgrade to faster wifi for the day.
With all this I realize the hotel is meant for short stays and the average person wouldn't have experienced as much as we have. However I think an honest review of a longer term guest would be beneficial to people considering this hotel. We've stayed in countless hotels across the world for work. Many of them 1 star or 2 star establishments which made better efforts at correcting hot water issues or replenishing restaurant menu items than the management at this hotel.
Depending on where in the world the company will want to move us it's looking like we may be staying in Southampton for a few more weeks so I'm excited to move to a different hotel. If I had hot water available right now, I would be showering instead of writing...
Read moreI have been staying at this Premier Inn each month for over three years and up till recently I have had no real complaints as the hotel location fits in with my travel arrangements perfectly .... however, I once again booked for 4 nights in November this year. during my third night I received a phone call from reception to tell me the hotel is closing in the morning and I should pack my bags and leave.
I went to reception and spoke to the lady, why I asked are you closing, she told me because of Covid - 19. I told her hotels were not on the Government list for closure only pubs and restaurants!! Made no difference the hotel was closing and I must leave. I am being thrown out on the street !!! She told me i could transfer to their other hotel in Southampton which was 10 miles away !! I explained that the following day I was in travelling to London for work can I leave my bags in reception and collect them at the end of the day when I return, this she approved but would not approve my request for a taxi to take me to the hotel at their expense. The following morning i had packed my bags and come down to reception, another girl was their. I asked her to secure my bags for the day, she refused as she then told me the hotel was closing at midday and would not be open on my return from London, Yesterdays receptionist told em they would be on duty throughout the closure. I asked that my bag be taken by taxi to the Southampton Hotel She refused, I asked to speak with the manager who was hiding just round the corner. I asked him why is it closing, it is he answered and I must leave, we then had a conversation as to why I am being evicted out on the street she response was very rude, he refused my bag, he refused to make travel arrangements to get me and my baggage to the other hotel, in short his customer services assistance was zero. He could give a toss. I missed my train to London, I missed a very important client and I had to get my own taxi and take my luggage to Southampton then find a train station to get me to London. No apology, no compensation and no help from the hotel...
Read morePositives - (1) Room was clean and spacious. (2) Bed was comfortable. (3) Shower water pressure was very good and nicely hot. (4) Lady (I couldn't place the accent, perhaps SA, NZ or AU) that served us breakfast was very lovely. (5) Breakfast was decent. Negatives - (1) The lady on reception would be best described as apathetic; not a warm welcome. I would have informed the hotel about the issues with my stay, but on check out nobody asked me how my stay was. (2) It took the people on reception about 10 mins per person to check them in; there is clearly a problem with the system and the door card activation device. (3) The room (120) faces out to the main road; whilst traffic noise was generally muted, lorries and sports cars were very audible - not brilliantly soundproofed and I do not recommend rooms on this side of the building for this reason. (4) The fan in the bathroom is on its way out; it runs permanently and is a bit squeaky, making an unpleasant continuous noise which is still audible with the bathroom door shut. (5) When people in the room above walk it booms in the room below. (6) The room above has creaky floorboards; in particular, in the corner nearest the window; when people in the room above step there it makes a loud and sudden cracking noise which woke me up when they woke up (before 6am). My active noise cancelling headphones couldn't even block it out (7) The toilet in the room above is situated either directly above or near the bed in the room below; when the occupants went to the toilet in the morning, it was very audible to me laying in bed - both 1s and 2s going directly into the bowl and then, once flushed, slapping down the pipework in the walls. Disgusting. (8) The room is right next to one of the main doors to the hallway; the door bangs closed when people come and go and is audible in the room. You may think I'm being over the top about noise issues, but I have partial hearing loss, so for an average person it would presumably be a...
