Right, then. After the disenchanting escapade at Mercedes World, our intrepid visitor traipsed over to the Brooklands Museum, a hop and a skip away, to soak in some real automotive and aeronautical history. Brooklands, a name that resonates with the thunderous echoes of Britain's motoring and aviation heritage, was the world's first purpose-built motor racing circuit, established in 1907. This hallowed ground birthed British motorsport, then became an aviation design and testing trailblazer, and saw over 18,000 aircraft of nearly 260 types take flight from its grounds between 1908 and 1987. During the war years, Brooklands was a beehive of activity. It played a pivotal role in flying training both before and between the World Wars and was a vital cog in the British aircraft industry. Post-war, companies like Vickers and British Aerospace continued this legacy of innovation. The site's transformation into a museum showcases an awe-inspiring array of motoring and aviation exhibits, including the legendary Concorde and other storied aircraft like the Vickers Viscount and the Vanguard. What really sets the Brooklands Museum apart is not just the exhibits themselves, but the stories they tell and the people who tell them. Our visitor, a self-professed non-museum goer, was swept up in the passion and knowledge of the volunteers. The Concorde, a marvel of engineering and a symbol of a bygone era of luxury air travel, wasn't just a static display; it was being lovingly maintained and even improved upon by a group of former engineers, a testament to the enduring legacy of these machines. This isn't just a museum; it's a living, breathing homage to Britain's rich history in motor racing and aviation. From airworthy replicas of pioneering aircraft to exhibitions that breathe life into the stories of the past, Brooklands is a time capsule of human ingenuity and determination. The experience of wandering these halls, where history is palpable, is far from the lackluster tour of Mercedes World. It's an enlightening journey that offers far more than just a glimpse into the past; it's a dive into the heart of British motoring and aviation legacy. So, in summary, while Mercedes World may have been a bit of a damp squib, Brooklands Museum emerges as a gleaming beacon of historical fascination, proving that sometimes, the best experiences come when you least expect them. It's not just about old cars and planes; it's about the spirit of an era that dared to dream big and soar even higher. And that, my friends, is something truly worth every pound spent.

I recently had the privilege of participating in the Silver Concorde Experience at Brooklands Museum, and words can hardly capture the sheer magnificence of this encounter with aerospace history. The moment I stepped foot into the museum I was greeted by Mary, the Event Manager, who took us to the Clubhouse for tea and cake. We were then introduced to the team of ex-Concorde pilots Harry Linfield and Tony Heald, whose expertise and stories added an incredible depth to the experience. The highlight was undoubtedly stepping aboard the Concorde itself, a marvel of engineering and a testament to human innovation. Sipping champagne while listening to firsthand accounts of flights and technical intricacies from the pilots was a surreal and unforgettable moment. But the thrills didn't end there! The simulator session was an absolute delight. Sitting side by side with an ex-Concorde pilot Tony, I had the exhilarating opportunity to navigate the virtual skies of Hong Kong, guided expertly through the controls and manoeuvres. Mary ensured the entire event was flawlessly orchestrated, seamlessly blending education, history, and pure excitement. Every detail, from the tour to the simulator session, was meticulously planned, creating a day that I will cherish forever. It's an experience that transcends mere description – it's an immersion into the legacy of aviation. For anyone with even a passing interest in aviation or those seeking a once-in-a-lifetime experience, I cannot recommend the Silver Concorde Experience at Brooklands Museum enough. It's not just a visit; it's a journey through time and innovation that will leave an indelible mark on your memory. Thank you to Mary and the rest of the incredible team at Brooklands Museum for making this day an absolute highlight in my life's adventures. It's a special memory I'll treasure for years to come!

A good place to visit if you’ve never seen a Concorde before, with a couple cars I hadnt seen before, especially in the little Mclaren exhibition (Senna GTR Prototype and show car, Lego 720s). But overall the place seemed quite tired and in need of some updating, including the displays, photos, pieces to read and old tv screens. It just seemed like the place had been put together 30 years ago and only a few areas have been updated since. And despite the lack of vehicles and aircraft on display, they didnt seem to make the most out of some of the ones that were there, including the Harrier Jump Jet jump which was abit hidden away and the Concorde could definetely benefit from a nice modern exhibition. However I must say onboard some of the aircraft, the volunteers were really knowledgable and seemed to enjoy being able to share their knowledge. It just seemed very overpriced compared to what you can experience at other museums such as IWM and F1 Exhibition London, which usually have nice big displays along with different audios to listen to and visuals to watch. If visiting id reccomend going across to Mercedes Benz World which is literally across the road and includes 6 or so f1 cars. And its completely free!! Overall it was worth it to see the Concorde and get to know abit more about the aircraft, but it is a shame nothing has really been updated to reach its full potential, especially at the price of tickets.

One of the most amazing places I have ever visited. There is so much to see and the history of this site is unbelievable .it was the first purpose built race track it was home to the likes of the great Malcolm Campbell and held the first British grand prix . The track is now broken and unusable but the history and parts of the historic track remain . The museum is also home to the London bus museum and the Aviation history here is as astounding as. the motor and racing history Barnes Wallace was based here designing planes and bombs that helped us to victory in World War II . It hosts many special events throughout the year some well worth a visit it is also home to many planes such as the Hawker Hurricane and Wellington bombers and concorde and my favorite plane the Harrier jump jet . The planes range from very early ones to quite modern planes . It is a wonderful place it even has a lego full size Mclaren car as well as the real thing and it has cars ranging from the amazing Railton Napier to current formula one cars . It is not just cars and planes but has many historic motor bikes in its collection . Everywhere you turn there is something to see and be amazed at . There are places to eat and plenty of toilets this place is a petrol heads dream . The history is just phenomenal.

Came today as part of a coach tour. Thi k the last time I came here was 25+ years back. Was really amazed at everything on display. Started around looking at all the motor side of it all the different era motorbikes to the earliest of race car, really impressed on how well they have been preserved and well cared for. Information to read was never ending, need to come back. Went around to the cafe area for a quick cuppa before looking around more, even exhibits to look at in there. The whole history surrounding Brooklands is absolutely amazing, to pre and post war life. The aircraft hanger was truly incredible loved learning the history around the Loch Wellington. Loved the interactive activities upstairs. Got to have a big kid moment as well being able to sit in a Harrier Jump Jet and a Hawker hunter aircraft. Former passenger aircraft on display is impressive. Wish you could go in more of them for a look around. Finished the day by doing the Concorde Experience ( book in advance)truly worth it the guide we had was very knowledgeable and friendly and ready for any questions asked of him. Truly the history around the aircraft is amazing and Brooklands part in it too. Again fantastic day out recommend very high. To the staff all very friendly and full of information ready to share. Can't wait to come back.

A return visit with overseas visitors. Excellent guide from a very knowledgable steward in the Stratosphere Chamber Barnes Wallace display. A huge amount to see from Aircraft to Buses via Cars and motorbikes. Would take more than a day to view everything. The site of the countries 1st motor racing circuit. This place was the inspiration behind the film, those magnificent men in their flying machines. The scene of Record Breaking in cars and bikes in the 1920s and 30s it was also used for cycle racing. It closed at the start of ww2 and never reopened. It then became the home of Vickers building Aircraft during and after the war. Later as BAE it built parts of Concorde and now bosts a Concorde and we understand the only working concord simulator. Since ww2 the original buildings were left intact and today form part of the museum and evoke a unique and authentic atmosphere similar to that found at Bletchley Park. It is as if the historic figures have just left the site. .....and we have just scratched the surface. This a place to return and return again. Lots of special events to visit for those with a love of all things motoring and Aviation related.
