An experience of picking crops like no other. This is a huge place with a very reasonable entry fees per person. The farm has a circular kind of pathway with multiple stops. The entire pathway may take up to an hour if you are on foot, so it is highly recommended to take your car till the end. Each stop has a small cabin where you can collect paper boxes to collect your pick and a parking place to park your car. Each stop has a different set of crops (fruits, vegetables or flowers). The crops are reasonably priced, you can pick as many as you wish (do not have to fill the box to the rim or anything). Once you are done with all the crops, you can pay for all of them together in the end. If you would like to go in again, you just have to let the staff know and they will re-route you to the entrance. Once you are done with the picking, you can visit the "garden centre" if you want to go to the restroom, do some more shopping or just eat something at the restaurant. All parking is free and the entry fees to the farm can be refunded for your total purchase!
The staff is extremely friendly, the experience is amazing as you get to pick a lot of things, (the only thing which I found overpriced was the products at the Garden centre.) I will surely visit the place again!
PS: The entrance is grand (on the right side of the road) and hopefully there should be no issue finding the place. If you are using google, it might tell you to go straight for another 3 mins, but when you see the large Garson's farm board, you can just take a right and enter.
Tip: you may want to book the earliest slot if you are visiting on a weekend, because it gets busy as the...
Read moreThe good bits: The land containing all the fruit and veg (that you can pick yourself or buy in the great farm shop) is WELL looked after, and the produce is excellent! The farm shop is WELL stocked with fantastic foods and the staff, like the main store, are always keen to help. The main shop sells all manner of things guaranteeing to have some interest to almost anyone. From hot tubs and pet products, to stationery, kitchen items and gardening stuffed galore. The bad bits? Well not many really unless you plan on eating at lunchtime and are fully prepared to wait an hour in one of two queues to order a cup of tea and a bowl of chips, pay, (a huge mark up price) to be told you need a table number. If you're lucky enough to have a companion wait at a highly sort after table that won't mind the embarrassment of sitting at an empty table while diners approach asking if they can sit there, then that helps. Then you could face the news that your small food order, will be about half an hour. THIS IS NOT TRUE, for if you look around and ask people, you will find the ultra discovery that you will have to, as all before you have, wait over an HOUR! Our day there was great (honestly it was) we bought loads in the farm shop, and a fair bit of stuff in the main shop. We have often picked our own fresh grown produce, and the cafe always used to be ok. However since the new restaurant, (we were informed that it was to good to be known as a café) the service is diabolical. My recommendation, visit the farm shop, browse through the store, pick some produce, and go and enjoy a picnic. (There's loads of nice...
Read moreI was pretty underwhelmed with my experience at Garsons. I’ve been wanting to come for ages. First of all (and importantly) their Instagram page is either not updated properly or misleading; two weeks ago there was a post saying their Sunflowers are in full bloom for picking and two weeks on when we arrived last Saturday we were told it was closed and the season is over?? Today I see more pictures of their sunflowers on Instagram stories?? Completely confused their communication to customers is so poor! But I was also disappointed with what I observed. The picking fields are pretty messy with abandoned punnets (with half picked fruit) left on the ground and hardly any knowledgeable staff (or staff full stop) around. It seems like all the money went into making the garden shop with lots of items to purchase and The Orangery restaurant? Well honestly the staff were nice inside but the food? I was expecting really good food and sadly it wasn’t. My husband’s avocado on toast was bland and my fish and chips was mainly batter with no fish. :( The strawberries we picked tasted good and my mother-in-law enjoyed some of the other fruit we got but gosh the fruit in total for what we got was so expensive. From the IG pics I was expecting a slightly nicer outside environment and everything to be of a good standard and overall I was just disappointed. Garson’s could do with employing a better coms team and maybe some dedicated staff that help tidy the place up a bit. We will head back to Secretts and won’t be coming back to Garson’s again. For the price point overall I don’t...
