Went to see Tom Jones last night after the evening races. We bought tickets for the 1875 lounge which was great for the races as you had your own bar, toilets and betting facilities but early on in the evening they ran out of chilli con carne and weren’t providing any more which left hot dogs as the only option with the most disgusting onions. My friends went downstairs and bought fish and chips which they enjoyed but then upstairs ran out of Prosecco and coffee. How ridiculous. More people downstairs to cater for and there were no problems. When Tom Jones arrived on stage the screens in the lounge had no sound so you had to go outside onto the grandstand. No seating was available and the event supporters were telling everyone off for standing on the stairs and making them go back inside.not only that but you couldn’t make out what TJ was singing or talking about. Suggestions: do a proper sound check before concerts Only sell enough tickets for the lounge that will accommodate everyone moving out onto the grandstand. It was really overcrowded. You know how many tickets you’ve sold so work out how much food and drink you need. Not worth £100. And a lot of people...
Read moreI visited here for the National Honey Show which is every year around about October half term time. This is the best of the best and highly competitive. The numbers were a bit down from usual but still a good number of entries. There are lectures and workshops over the three days. To make the most of it you join and book online quite a few weeks ahead as the places fill up quickly. The best value is to join for around £20(I’m not sure this is correct but near enough) which gives entry for three days and all the lectures. Workshop are extra and there are plenty to choose from. If you join now you would be kept up to date with the news and sent a schedule for the competition, with all the details of lectures and workshops with extensive descriptions. Daily tickets are also available for £15. There is also a trade show running over all three days, with lots of goodies. Hives, books, bee clothing, microscopes, extractors, candles, and many more beekeeping items. Just remember to take...
Read moreA great racecourse. I went there yesterday with my mum. We came by train to Esher and took the courtesy bus from the station. The bus took about 5 mins. We missed the first race. The first impressions are of a course like Goodwood or Newbury but behind the main building were lovely mature trees offering shade over the parade ring. Above the main building was a champagne bar with all of the networkers and socialites. I paid 20 pounds for the Grandstand enclosure. A bit steep but the card was good. The feature race was worth 22k. Which for a Wednesday is good I think. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood. No police were on site and everyone seemed to be jolly. I think the crowd was about 500 strong. I didn't back any winners but what can you do? We walked back to the station afterwards. It took us about ten minutes and the traffic was very busy at about 17:45. Good chance to reflect on the afternoon's...
