My dogs have a great time here. I literally found this place, by accident /fluke. But it is now one of my favourite places to visit. There is something for everyone. Large playing fields if there's a large group of you. Or if you just want a quick kick about with the kids. There is cafe which serves hot / cold drinks. Some hot snacks. Sandwiches, cake and ice-cream/lollies. You can eat inside or they have a few tables outside. Also they kindly put out water for visiting Doggies. There are toilets literally next door. The lake is beautiful and is home to numerous water birds. Swans, Mallards, Coors, Canadian Geese. The lake is full of fish and fishing is allowed with the correct permits and set times. There is a great path all around the lake which is excellent for wheelchair users. There is also benches and seating all around. So if you need a breather or just want to watch the lake and it's inhabitants. There is plenty of land and paths to explore around and about the lake. There is also a cycle path. Situated just next to the lake is a wonderful children's play area. With slides, swings and rockers galore. The actual play area is sand. There is also a large wooden gazebo style structure. With seating built around the inside. Perfect for shaded play or escape from a passing shower. To access the park you drive into the structure then drive along a narrow lane. There is skate park situated here and some parking. If you don't fancy the walk, you can follow the lane around. Which brings you to a large parking structure. There are lots of room and also adequate number of disable parking bays. I think the building is a sports centre or sports club. This is also where the cafe and toilets are located. Don't forget to bring some oats, corn, lentils for feeding the birds. Less mess and healthier for...

Alvaston Park: A Tranquil Riverside Escape

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Nestled along the serene Trent and Mersey Canal, Alvaston Park is an 85-acre gem that beckons visitors with its natural beauty and diverse offerings.

Ambiance and Scenic Views: As I strolled through the park, I was captivated by the harmonious blend of rustic charm and modern tranquility. The views are nothing short of picturesque. The gentle ripples of the lake create a soothing backdrop as you sip your coffee or enjoy a leisurely walk.

Activities and Exploration: Alvaston Park caters to all interests.

Here’s what you can experience:

BMX Adventure: Calling all thrill-seekers! The National Standard BMX Track awaits, ready for adrenaline-pumping rides.

Swan Lake: The park’s most prominent feature is its historic lake, home to graceful swans and other wildlife. Take a leisurely walk around the water’s edge and soak in the serenity.

Community Spirit: Alvaston Park Friend a passionate community group has played a pivotal role in shaping the park. They inspired the creation of the Science Garden and host the lively Alvaston Park Family Fun Day each July. Join them in making this green oasis even more vibrant!

Accessibility and Location: Wheelchair-friendly paths wind through the park, ensuring everyone can enjoy its beauty. The park backs onto the River Derwent, connecting Derby City Centre and Elvaston Country Park via a scenic riverside path.

Final Thoughts: Alvaston Park is more than a park; it’s a sanctuary where time slows down, laughter echoes, and nature embraces you. So, whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or community spirit, this riverside haven welcomes you with open arms.

For years I frequented this park every Sunday on match days when my lad played footy. Afterwards we’d go to the cafe which over looks the large pond. Lovely place to sit or walk around with the kids on a sunny day. There’s Indian Ringneck parrots that fly about. If you don’t catch a glimpse of them they’ll make their presence known by their unique squawking. Sets the scene for me. I do love it there for that. Nice cuppa and a stroll occasionally. The park area is suitable from (I’d say) 2 years and up. You will see the odd teen there, but, they’re not usually there all the time. There’s a sand pit, swings, slide, climbing frame and plenty of places for parents to sit and observe if you don’t fancy trailing your 4,5,6,7 year old round. It’s clean and tidy most of the time. There is a public toilet too. Just bring tissues with you and hand sanitiser just in case. They do smell like a public loo does. But. If you need to go it’s better than the alternative!! The green is HUGE. You could walk your dog round it or use it as a training ground for your dog with PLENTY of room to do so. Before you enter the large car park (follow the road all the way round to the left) you’ll see a BMX track which is popular with local residents and others near by. Situated off of a pothole ridden gravel parking area. If you have a low car. Don’t try it. It’s not advisable! Especially if you value the chassis and any other mechanical part to make the car work.

There is also a fair ground that does pitch up once in a while too. Lots happening there and it’s a great place to go and sit and not...

A lot has changed here since I was here last ,gone are the boats and the lake is more a wildlife refuge, especially for wild fowl. A great place to recognise the different types of duck. Tufted,Teal, Mallard, Shoveler,Golden eye,and Widgeon. Occasionally a Mandarin make a appearance. The swans look magnificent as they glide across the lake with the weeping willows in the background make a fine photograph. Squirrels come down from the trees hoping for food from the visitors. A great place to spend a relaxing hour or two. There's a little cafe but more investment in this area is desperately needed. More outdoor seating with tables would be great. A pier with a cafe and outdoor tables like Attenborough would be nice. Let's bring Alvaston Lake back to being the place to be. A great day out. During the school holidays there is a fair with Dinosaurs. ÂŁ7.99 for a wrist band for the children to allow them to go on the rides and slides. For the adults there's a lovely Coffee Bar that also serves tea and cakes. A good day out for not a lot of money. Fair ends August 29th

Drove an hour and half to go to the fare, it was very misleading, complete waste of money and petrol! only a few rides which was caked in mud, the whole thing was a complete hazard, only a few safety belts for rides, the ones they did have the clips were broken, got basically scammed out of £10 for two adult bands because every ride we wanted to go on to with our child adults wasn’t allowed on! And they don’t do refunds! We didn’t see any signage stating no refunds, The wood floor on one ride was lifting up and looked mouldy, the ride kept getting stuck, some rides safety clips to close the ride/gates wasn’t closed properly either. Definitely would not recommend!! Definitely not for children! As you can see in the photos rides going around with doors open massive safety risk! 2 maybe 3 of the ride staff was nice and friendly.

Nice park with a lake that is obviously very popular for locals. A dog friendly cafe that offers the kind of food you want on a walk (bacon cob etc). Surrounding grass area on a Sunday appears to be primarily sports ground, no issues as that is what it is there for, but worth being aware of as the carpark can get busy and the fields are mainly taken up with football being played, so best to have dog on a leash and stick to the path round the lake etc. Doesn't take away the niceness of the park. It isn't a huge park so don't expect a long visit except maybe in nicer weather when picnics may be had.
