Mine and my girlfriend have saved a large part of our hearts for this gem of a British geography lesson. I remember studying this cove at school and in reality you can see why.
With its shear unstable chalk cliffs reshaping the cove and the incredible secluded cove, it has everything and more for explorers and families.
Access: easy access signposted well wide of West lulworth and is found at the bottom of bindon bottom where the road turns into a huge car park with hundreds of spaces.
Facilities: excellent, plenty of food, beach shops, ice cream, pub, fresh seafood from the cove and plenty of toilets.
Parking: extremely plentiful but get there early to ensure a closer space as it can be extremely busy. Very expensive but be sure to use the check in/out using card as it stops the worrying of car parking running out. Tickets bought here are also valid at durdle door.
What’s good: spectacular views with plenty of walks. Beware the south coast path is only accessible when the lulworth range is open which is well signposted.
Plenty of facilities and loads to explore both on the cove and in west lulworth.
Downs: can be extremely busy during peak times with queues to park resulting in limited space on the cove for bathing.
Cove is heavy shingle which makes walking tricky.
Food can be pricey but it’s exclusive so you get what you pay for.
Facts: do visit the lulworth stair hold which gives you a view of a 2nd lulworth cove in the making. The cliffs are extremely unstable and fall daily so stay away from the edges!
When the ranges are closed you can actively hear gun fire over the hills from the army practice.
The bay is fished for a range of fish including oyster bays and can be bought fresh from a hut.
Open cinema nights are held on the hill overlooking the bay,...
Read moreWe've been coming to Lulworth Cove on and off for over 15 years. When we first started coming we absolutely loved it and it was a special place for us. We'd rent holiday houses nearby so we could visit. It's a beautiful place and the walks are superb. However over the years it has become busier and busier, and the car park become more and more expensive (the Lulworth Estate has a monopoly as there is only one car park) . Once our children became school age we were limited to the peak times which have become unpleasant now for busyness, crowding and noise. However our strategy would be to wait until late afternoon/early evening when it would be quieter and come for ice creams and walk down to the beach and enjoy the scenery whilst eating our ice creams. However the car parking charge has increased from £5 since our last visit 2 years ago, to a minimum charge of £10 regardless of time of day, so it has become prohibitively expensive. Even in off peak times we would not visit now because of the car parking charge.
Lulworth cove is good for water sports and walking, but if wanting to spend the day on the beach, there are better beaches nearby for this, also with facilities.
It is sad because after having had lots of happy memories here in the past, I can't see us wanting to come back here again in the future either at peak or...
