A very impressive and excellent museum in the heart of Scunthorpe chartering the general and social history of the town of Scunthorpe and the local area. There are a number of information displays to see ranging from Geology and Fossils, The History of Steel Making in Scunthorpe and it's effects economically and socially on Scunthorpe and the surrounding area, WWI and WWII on Scunthorpe and it's effects, Archeology of the local area, Roman and Anglo Saxon History of Scunthorpe and the local area, Scunthorpe in 1950s, 1960s & 1970s & how Scunthorpe established itself as a town and along with the local villages in the area. All of the information displays are laid out in an easy to understand and are brilliantly informative and intriguing and there are a number of brilliant artefacts to see such as a a stunning variety of rocks and fossils, Roman Pottery and Neolithic Flint Axe heads to see and all of which wonderfully preserved in their display cabinets. The best of the displays is the Geology and Fossils Display and the History of Steel Making as the Fossils in particular the ammonites are truly spectacular and intriguing to see and also the Geology information is very fascinating and the history of Steel Making of Scunthorpe is truly interesting and gives you a great idea of how one of the main industries helped Scunthorpe grew and establishing itself as a town. The Flixborough Disaster is another great display and is very thought provoking about an incident at the Nylon Factory in the area and is a great tribute to those who tragically died. Admission to the museum is free and there is a small free car park to the rear of it and a short walk to it, which is excellent. There is a small shop at the museum selling a nice range of souvenirs at reasonable prices. Overall this is a wonderfully interesting museum to visit and learn about the history of Scunthorpe and the local area and makes for an enjoyable and brilliant day out. Definitely well worth a visit whilst...

Read moreGood little visit from time to time, not heavy on the pocket. My little girl enjoys looking around then playing with the various interactive toys and equipment they have. They do arts and crafts workshops but, whenever we seem to try book our little girl in they are full. I'd like to see outdoor activities in summer months too to expand on outdoor space they have. It'd be nice to have a plan of what workshops and things are going on somewhere near the entrance somewhere more visible to the public. It has features and rooms to keep little minds entertained. I would like to ultimately see a larger museum but that's never going to happen in such a small town. We have to make do with...
