As many of you may or may not know from my previous reviews (TripAdvisor) I try to give my true and honest representation of the places I visit and here is one of my best recommendations in a while and I found it on my Own Doorstep!! What a Win.
LAVO. Is A Truly Authentic Italian Restaurant situated in Scunthorpe town centre and has only been open since April 2022 formerly Lucio's which closed in 2020.
This modern Bar / restaurant is stylish and inviting the staff are very warm, friendly, and professional and are very attentive, this is the first Restaurant I have ever sat in that you don’t feel rushed from your table to make way for more customers, you can also always get the attention of a staff member almost immediately for anything else you may require.
Now for the food, when we first sat down the Gentleman that served me was so friendly it was if I had known him for years!!! I expressed my gratitude to him for finally having a decent proper Italian Restaurant he just smiled and said you will have to let me know how we do.
So, we ordered 3 x Bruschetta Classica with the Addition of some Goats Cheese 3 x Ravioli All' astice (Lobster) with a tomato velouté 1 x Garlic Bread with mozzarella 2 x Bianco e Nero (basically a much-improved Italian style Profiterole) 1 x Chocolate Fudge Cake with Vanilla Ice cream
So, to the food
The Bruschetta Classica was as close to Authentic as you could possibly get in the UK let alone in a small town like Scunthorpe. If was sat at a table outside in the sunshine I honestly would believe I was sat in Tuscany, it wasn’t smothered in Pesto Sauce like some of the other big named food chains, it was fresh and dam tasty.
Now the Garlic Bread, just blew my mind I can honestly say it’s the best I have Ever Tasted!!!!!!!!!!!
The Ravioli All' astice, was cooked to perfection the pasta was perfect the filling generous and the velouté was perfect with a great balance of fish stock with tomato the seasoning was very subtle but that to me is the chef doing his job perfectly, by giving the customer a way to balance the dish to his or her specific taste.
The Deserts where also pretty much exactly what it said on the menu which tasted amazing and finished of our meal to complete satisfaction.
Although this is only my First visit, I can categorically tell you I will be returning to this Restaurant to taste every single item on the Menus as I love Italian food and my hope is every item is going to be as good as my first visit.
Thank You LAVO. for making...
Read moreHad high hopes, was slightly disappointed. A secondary door is needed at the front of the restaurant to ease with the massive draft that comes right through into the main seating area, as they never seem to shut the glass doors which are present. Service was very pleasant and overall good, but the main lady taking the orders on the tab needs to up her friendliness, a welcoming smile would be good. Ambience is OK, but is very dark and lots of tables in a space meaning the waitresses can easily barge you when walking by with orders. Also the music just isnt appropriate, its too loud and makes you feel like you are dining in the middle of a club. Quite pricey as it is, I find it cheeky to automatically add a service charge even if you can ask for it to be removed - if someone wants to tip they will do it themselves. Cocktails where good but expensive £8/9. Chip portion is tiny at £4 a pop. Plain garlic bread wasn't very garlicky and seemed a bit dry and on the burnt side. Didn't have dessert as £8 per portion is an absolutely obscene price. We enjoyed our mains and mine was very generous with the mushrooms, which is great.
EDITED to add, my OH made a booking here to return for a postponed valentine's meal. Upon arrival we waited to be treated as we walked through the door and no one was there, we waited and we waited then finally someone arrived to tell us our table was not yet ready and to get a drink from the bar and wait (massive queue at the bar, waitress could of told them to serve us next since we where waiting for our table) we was just left to our own devices. We chose not to stay and went to a place around the corner with amazing customer service even though they where...
Read morePrawn cocktail starter had more greenery in it than a playing field and approx 7 prawns. Main meal delicious. However I did find that the staff seemed to be running round like headless chickens, and it was quite difficult to not notice the tension and frustration on the staffs faces and waving arm gestures. I have to also point out that if you think you will get a romantic or quite dining experience forget it. I think the dining area should be closed off to the front of the restaurant as it was so bloody noisy and you couldn't hear yourself think. Also I think the table layouts don't work either they have 2 corner cubicles 1 of which seems to be an after thought on where to put it. Decor nice, and restaurant manager was quite friendly, staff were good but as I said looked and seemed very stressed out. I bought one round of drinks at one price and then bought the same round at a higher price. They also add the service charge on without telling you so be vigilant. Overall it was OK but don't think I'll be going back in a hurry. Sorry to give only a 3 star but this is my opinion and my opinion only yhe rest of my party enjoyed but several of them agreed with...
