Lovely vast forest, with fairly priced parking at the entrance. There are loads of fallen and weird shaped trees with strange burls on them, which gives the wibe of a haunted forest, 🫠 so getting a little lost was certainly entertaining. Since it was our first visit, we decided to follow the marked trail, which was very subtle and didn't intrude in the environment. At some point, though, the trail disappeared. After some exploration and thanks to my partner's good sense of direction we did manage to get back on a pathway fault quick.

Second time I've been and took my niece. We like forest walks. Theres nothing to see there except forest and the sign about the people who lived there so don't go expecting to see any remnant of the people who lived there. The only things that out lasted them are the beautiful trees but it's a lovely part of the forest that gets lovely sun and day light and you can take great pictures when the light hits right.

When you get there the earth works are confusing. There is a sign post to explain what it is. Unbelievable to think these were created so long a go. Please be careful with bikes as dont want them churned up and lost for the future. Had difficulty finding from Loughton but was very easy from the Kings Oak. Coffee and snacks available from next door to Kings Oak.

Was here at 3am on a tuesday which is usually as busy as it gets. Didn’t see a soul. Well that’s not entirely true I did see a will-o-the-wisp which tried to lead me to treasure. I didn’t follow. I know their reputation. In a dream that morning once i got home i saw a rain of seed pods falling only over this plateau. The will-o-the-wisp was shaking a tin dredge over the area and causing the downpour. I realized by the welts popping up on my body that i was back in the forest, but that i didn’t have any arms or legs. The will-o-the-wisp chastened me for not following, for not having faith, and showed in my minds eye the trove which it had been trying to lead me to: It was a beautiful woman who loved me. Loved me deeply, I could see it in her eyes in my minds eye. And I loved her back and in our gaze was all the comfort and riches a soul could wish for. I lay on the leaf strewn floor, limbless, knowing exactly where my love was and unable to cross the clearing to meet it. I looked to the trees and the ferns and the holly. They asked nothing of me. I asked nothing of them. I awoke back home and made tea and...
